Everyone’s talking about AI using em dashes too much, but no one is talking about the self-answered question: “the result? Diabolical.” Or “the humour? Cutting.”

No humans write like that.

Remember when Trump pardoned violent insurrectionists who attacked police officers? It’s weird that people forget about that when they talk about his misdeeds.

This is a very powerful decision.
Abrego Garcia v. Noem et al. (U.S. Court of Appeals, 4th Circuit) decision denying U.S. government's petition for an emergency stay and a writ of mandamus. It is a short, well-written, and well-reasoned opinion. I urge you to take some time to read its seven pages. www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/facn3...

I can’t look away. I always thought it admirable, if a bit misguided, how Americans were so proud of their system of government. But now they’re mostly helpless to stand by and watch it be torn apart from the inside.
Trump officials' defiance over Abrego Garcia's deportation is 'shocking,' appeals court says
A federal appeals court says it is “shocking” that The Trump administration claims it can’t do anything to free Kilmar Abrego Garcia from an El Salvador prison and return him to the U.S.

I like this push to get off US-based digital services.

I don’t think it will be possible to cut off everything — I’m hopelessly tied into the Apple ecosystem, for example — but I do think there are opportunities to cut more out in favor of alternatives elsewhere.
How to Avoid US-Based Digital Services—and Why You Might Want To
Amid growing concerns over Big Tech firms aligning with Trump administration policies, people are starting to move their digital lives to services based overseas. Here's what you need to know.

People who complain about Sydney’s train network have never experienced commuting by train in Brisbane. I haven’t had a single train journey this week that didn’t have some kind of random delay or other issue.

This whole thread is great, but this perfectly encapsulates how I feel about LLMs at the moment. The next person who tells me that LLMs are going to fundamentally change legal practice is getting sent a copy of this thread.
The hype is annoying. It's chief propagandists are evil. It's being shoehorned into places where it doesn't belong. It's arrived at a dystopian historical moment. But it's hard to say honestly that it's useless. 7/9

It’s so weird but also not surprising that the “nazi salute” is what has galvanised the online community and not any of his other reprehensible conduct.
New from 404 Media: hundreds of subreddits, including some of the most popular, are considering banning all links/content/screenshots from X/Twitter. r/NFL, r/hockey, r/baseball, r/nba, r/formula1, r/ComicBookMovies, r/MadeMeSmile, so many more. Some already have. www.404media.co/hundreds-of-...

Dear every generative AI. I never want to see, read or hear the word “dynamic”. Ever. Please stop using it all the damn time. Thank you.

Streisand effect in full operation. It’s a shame, I was in Raygun’s corner throughout the horrific bullying. But her heavyhanded and overly litigious approach to this musical makes me think she’s getting some pretty terrible advice.

I’ll never forgive Albo for making me agree with Elon.
#BREAKING 🚨 Elon Musk has reacted to the federal government’s social media ban for under-16s, saying it “seems like a backdoor way to control access to the Internet by all Australians”

X/Twitter would be one of one of the platforms banned under the legislation

I’ve discovered the perfect way to rock my baby to get him to sleep in less than 10 minutes. But like all parenting discoveries, I am sure that in two days I will try it and instead of putting him to sleep it will cause him to become inconsolable.

The Greens are alleging that the LNP Council wants to cut funding to Brisbane children literacy programs, but I can’t find any details. Does anyone know what’s going on?
Save children’s literacy sessions at Brisbane libraries
Big corporations, vested interests and major parties won’t stand up for ordinary Queenslanders. It’s time for a new kind of politics.

I am very glad to see BlueSky gaining traction in Australia. I thought Threads might do it for me and saved me having to manually rebuild my network, but the engagement bait just became overwhelming. BlueSky is already giving me early Twitter vibes.
