FFS blind and sight-impaired want to resist Trump, Orban, the Argentine bloke who looks like a farmer from Wexford…

So, if you’re going to post resistance texts in images… be humane and use alt.text.

It’s just not that hard to be inclusive. In fact that’s what I thought we are all trying for.

Dictator Hacks.

1. Ensure the populace believes education is purely for economic outcomes.

2. Keep the populace poor but offer chimeras of attainment.

3. Be in a continuous state of war preparation. External threats are useful even if they don’t exist.

4. Have a target (foreigners, the disabled)

A tale of the first time a gay man said he didn’t fancy me.

1980.

I’d been taught that gay people immediately jump young straight lads like me.

Instead he took me and my then girlfriend to some amazing clubs in London AND we learnt some polari.

Learning moments, eh? Worth their weight in life.

Why the hell learn Irish (#Gaeilge)?

Here’s a an ongoing series about my stumbling attempt to answer that question.

Apologies to all of Ireland if I’ve made a bollocks of it.

Channel 4 in the UK is going to air the brilliant ‘Say Nothing’. It was previously only available via paid streaming.

It’s about what’s euphemised (sic) as ‘The Troubles’ in the north of Ireland.

British people need to watch it.

My cat, Sydney, and my dog, Hobart need to know.

(Also me, I miss Aus a lot)

“Tim, why is all the writing work on your website free? Don’t you know A.i. will scrape it!”

Well now:

1. I love writing, been doing it for 40 years.

2. I’ve run out of energy trying to find an agent (my bad of course).

3. I love it when people read the work.

4. I’ll be dead soon. Why wait?

This means when I go out amid, you know, people, I just sort of stand there for 10 minutes before making what’s called an Irish exit.

Here’s a fun fact. The first cinema in Ireland (Volta Cinematograph) was put in place by James Joyce and partners.

James didn’t hang around though. He had business in Trieste and a few of literature changing books to write.

Phillipe Sands book, ‘38 Londres Street’ about the legal/moral issues relating to General Pinochet is brilliant.

Trump should read it.

The name of the book refers to the HQ of the Chilean Socialist Party that Pinochet turned into a torture centre.

Have you read it @davidallengreen.bsky.social ?

Juries are not perfect.

Many of the worst miscarriages of justice have followed jury trials.

But the merit of juries is not so much the power they have, but the power they prevent others from having.

They mean a judge cannot just nod-along with prosecution evidence and give a guilty verdict.
