Hey teacher friends- I want to update the 10-20 poems I use to introduce poetry to sophomores. This is not my strong suit.

Send me your suggestions for any really great poems that you and your students love. #poetry #literacy

Feeling overwhelmed by book bans and censorship where you live?

This pep talk offers encouragement, acknowledges the real challenges advocates face, and highlights the meaningful ways people are making a difference even when wins feel small.

What will you stand for in 2026?
As censorship grows louder, our commitment to the freedom to read must grow stronger. Taking action doesn’t require perfection, just persistence. Show up, speak out, support readers. Let’s push back together with courage and community.

All of the money that changed hands in the Teapot Dome scandal totaled less than $10 million after adjusting for inflation, and it was considered so corrupt we still teach it in high school government classes a century later.
Corruption so pungent, it wafts right off the page:

Lobbyists who do pardon deals “say their going rate is $1 million. Pardon-seekers have offered some lobbyists close to the president success fees of as much as $6 million if they can close the deal.”

Well said (and absolutely terrifying)👇
As Hannah Arendt put it: "The ideal subject of totalitarian rule is not the convinced Nazi or the dedicated communist, but people for whom the distinction between fact and fiction, true and false, no longer exists." Undermining that distinction will be a lasting legacy of generative AI.

As many have already pointed out- this was a planned attack on the lecturer.

The same is true of the OU TA who was fired for doing their job.

Universities trying to sidle up with political power have entirely lost the thread of what a university education is for.
Texas A&M University will not reinstate a lecturer who was fired after a video of her teaching about gender identity in a children’s literature class went viral, despite a faculty appeals panel unanimously concluding that her dismissal was not justified.
Texas A&M won’t reinstate fired lecturer despite findings
A vice chancellor upheld the firing of Melissa McCoul, seen in a viral video being confronted by a student on her gender identity teachings, saying the termination was done with “good cause.”

I wish we pushed for research on the political economy of academia more. It's what takes us beyond "oh why did this one person cite a fake journal article?" into "why do we have a system that rewards people who do not engage with prior research and simply churn out pubs?"

Have you ever heard someone go off, and their words are so perfectly chosen, so well said in that moment, that you’re in awe? You think, “There’s nothing to add here,” and you applaud in your head.

That’s exactly this. Pure perfection. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
