A lot of bonging.
Offputting projections during a quarter peal, but attractive from the outside. 🔔https://bb.ringingworld.co.uk/view.php?id=1907801https://bb.ringingworld.co.uk/view.php?id=1907801

Only one of three quarter peal attempts scored this weekend, but at least it was the one that I most wanted 🔔🎉

Was it wise to go to a wine tasting the night before a peal attempt? 🔔 I guess I'll find out in the morning.

We put in a very strong performance at practice night - we managed some home grown Cambridge Minor on the front six and, wonder of wonders, managed a touch of Stedman Triples 🙌 this all made up for having to ring Aberdare St Elevan Place Triples …

Some signs from the ringing weekend in Derbyshire, including a peal board from 1944 (not a lot of wartime peal boards, due to restrictions on ringing at that time).

Today's the feast of Sts Crispin and Crispinian, 3rd Century Diocletian martyrs, and the patron saints of shoemakers, cobblers, saddlers and leather workers. A 16th Century roundel in a side chapel of Kings College Chapel, Cambridge, shows them both busy at work.

Sixty years ago this week I had my first bellringing lesson. Wow, what an impact that almost chance happening (I only went to watch!) has had on my life. Many thanks to this group, especially to my friend David and of course Alan, both sadly like many in this picture no longer with us.

We were short of ringers at the scary tower this morning, so, for once, my limited abilities were appreciated. In a first, we rang some pleasant surprise minor at the second tower, and ringing at the third tower was also okay. (No, @annetansleythomas.bsky.social - not because you weren't there!)🙂🔔

I’m leading a tour of 18 churches in Hampshire. This is Fareham, St Peter and St Paul. Visible Saxon origins and thirteenth and twentieth century rebuilds. Only 17 churches to go!

I didn't get told off at the scary tower this morning. 🙂 TC at the friendly tower tried to overcome our number confusion in call changes by using people's names, only to discover some not only got confused about other ringers' names, but also forgot their own. 😬 Lots of surprise minor at tower 3. 🔔

The bells rang in Dunedin yesterday. The annual tradition celebrates the return of the Northern Royal Albatrosses to the Taiaroa Head colony, the only mainland breeding colony for this endangered species. Bells from all over the city chime at a predetermined time. ☺️

I found this an interesting listen, both in terms of politics, but also the attitudes of some ringers when novices join their tower practice and take up rope-time: www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...
