Cincy/NKY friends:

Many reports of really frigid, really ICEy conditions tomorrow, especially around the DHL and Amazon warehouses. Sources say there’s already ICEy conditions near hotels in Newport and Florence. Don’t be left out in the “cold” unprepared.

Just so we’re clear:
1. Audiobooks count
2. Reading is political
3. The orange man is a piece of 💩

Thanks for stopping by 💃

Some people are mentioning self-care, and I am not knocking self-care!

But I actually wrote this because I think it is incredibly important to do other-care in this moment. Connect to other people. Make their world better.

So this time around, I'm going to try to make the world more normal, in any way that I can.

In retrospect, I don't think this was terribly useful because it doesn't help you hold on to what normal should be.

Normal should be kind. Normal should involve good works.

It must be defined by positive action, not negative statements.

Last Trump admin, people took research from fascist regimes that suggested that people have a tendency to normalize what is happening, even as matters gets worse and worse around them, and so there was a point where people were saying, "this is not normal!" in response to the administration.

I am not saying things are going to be fine.

I am saying, find a thing to do that will put a little more hope in the world, however small.

You won't be any better at fighting what's coming if you burn yourself out and spend all your time feeling bleak and hopeless, and the people telling you that it's all despair now probably don't have anyone's best interest at heart.
