@snell.zone Thank you for something very few people probably love as much as me: Incomparable Bookclub episodes. They are kinda rare and precious and I just started over from the beginning, from 2010. The original mention of zeppelins! Anyway, thanks for reading and talking about books.

MY best books of the year. These books have stayed with me and gave me the best reading experiences. They reminded me why I read. Some I wanted to share and some I wanted to hoard. Each book gave me exactly what I wanted, something I didn’t know I needed, and made me feel valued as a reader.

And now I am thinking of rereading it!
I’ve been thinking a lot recently about Connie Willis’s wonderful, painful, somehow unfinished novel Passage. I think now’s the time to reread it

That’s quite a recommendation. On it! ❤️
Just wanted to say that Jane Gardam’s glorious triptych—Old Filth, Man in the Wooden Hat, and Last Friends—are among the finest reading experiences I’ve ever had in my entire (now very long) life. I’m so grateful to Europa Editions for keeping them in print

Thinking about Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovich “I left in a hurry before he could change his mind, but I want to make it clear that at no point did I break into a skip.” Magic’ll do that!

For some of us, make-believe is the only relief in a world full of horror and uncertainty.

Bookish thought experiment of the day. Someone asks you for a rec for a “dad book” which does not mean they have to be a dad but rather of an age where their busy life and split focus means they want to only read books that are a good bet for fascination. Here are my 8. You?
