This type of lentils has been cultivated for almost 2,000 years in the Canary Islands. The indigenous population was almost decimated when Europeans took over the islands but settlers (and the people they trafficked) adopted the indigenous people’s crops and continued to grow them.

I may not say when I harvest native horsetail from the river-bottoms...

(that I buy from Poland as a tea because 'mericans are obsessed with "native" plants but don't know fuck about them so I still have to get my horsetail tea from clear Polish people)

...but there will be signs.

I remember what my father said after 9/11 - "send us they already broke and don't break more young boys."... and that was before he tried to die and then eventually succeeded in 2006. Happy Veterans Day.

🥳 HUGE win! Cuba just made history by formalizing #agroecology as national law (Decree No. 128). And this isn't a top-down reform, but the institutionalization of a powerful, people-led movement that's been growing for over 30 years. Farmers leading policy! #agsky

The dems caved after 40 days of not getting paid cause shit gets real fast. Doesn't sound like they're going back to now stand up for people laid off or unemployed with no exit back into comfort.

Once every 2 weeks I cross over to Illinois for NOYB and to enjoy the (mostly) OG STL skyline on my way back. 42 years of this drive and it never gets old.

My grandmas didn't cook every meal 'cause they were rich-they were poor. My mom & I didn't live in 5 states before being taken in because we were rich-we were poor. I don't cook every meal because I'm rich. I'm happy for those that live in houses & can eat what they want-but that ain't all of us.

The hardest part about my degrees, botany credits, ethnobotanist training & years of farming is "master gardeners" wanting to lecture me about perennials & zone systems.. because gforbid self seeding annuals and actual climate change are in the mix. Just like people who can't cook without recipes.

My girl Queenie "picked the ball up that was dropped & boii did she slam it." The first time I ate her food was on a farm we both worked on in 2022 & I cried. Seriously-her food made me cry. Absolute magic.

I used to have a woman from Africa come to my farm last season for food equity and supply meetings. She would travel back to Africa and share with us information on how the fight(s) against Gate's was going on the farms she knew there - because he's here in STL too.

One of my favorite deserts is gluay kaeg (thai fried banana) & my favorite versions in Boston used egg roll wrappers..so when my 🍌s got too ripe I got ($2) wonton wrappers and things got deliciously outta hand..
