Historian of religion and politics, researcher, Auburn fan, and herald of woe.
So, I’m often going through old newspaper articles for my job, and I have to say, a lot of the critiques we have about news media today were just as relevant (if not more so) in previous decades.

Gotta say, as someone who’s served a LOT of RW bullshit on FB (because I keep being an idiot and fighting them), this time feels pretty different. Most of those who are defending the Pretti killing are getting torn apart, even by people who are usually fairly conservative “back the blue” types.

Can’t go into details, but this was a difficult week at work. Happy to put this one to bed.

Look… As an Auburn fan, I’ll take what I can get.
Way, way, way too early 2026 Top 25 rankings.

So we’re staring down the barrel of a winter storm here in N. Alabama. A gentle reminder that our infrastructure and support systems are built for extreme heat and humidity — not ice. So please have a little compassion as people freeze due to no fault of their own.

Wow! That was a fun game!

Gotta say, I love the Isengard theme from the band!

So my son just unexpectedly went to the potty all by himself for the first time, and I gotta say… I needed that win.

The neighbors have added a guard donkey to their herd of cattle (in case you were wondering just how rural I am, lol).

I have to say, I’m so happy to see that the trombone seems to be having a bit of a renaissance. Just saw some dude absolutely eating a rendition of “Pony” by Ginuwine.

There’s an alternate timeline where I moved to Minnesota for my PhD instead of DC. I often wonder how different my life would be if that were the case.

Man, what must it be like to live in a state that has a competent governor and isn’t staring down the barrel of Governor Tommy Fucking Tuberville??
Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger just issued an executive order shutting down state police cooperation with Trump’s ICE immediately after taking office.

Geez. Fucking Obergruppenführer Bovino.
Greg Bovino was seen earlier today at the Minneapolis ICE facility dressed in a very nazi-inspired outfit. They don’t even hide anymore.

My latest obsession/hyper-fixation: Amateur Radio. Nice when my hobbies are skills that could come in handy, given… [gestures vaguely]

As everyone else is saying, block and move on. We do not engage with Nazis.

People talk about how we used to be able to get coffee with people and agree to disagree… Then I remember the time I was talking to a conservative and they suggested we should nuke the Middle East because they have bad blood. I said, “I don’t think genocide is the answer,” and he said, “Why not?”

Just said to a friend, “The world sucks, but at least my cholesterol is down,” and seriously, this is the kind of “take wins where you can” energy I’m trying to bring to 2026.

Hi friends! My dad mows lawns for people who are unable to do so on their own. Unfortunately his zero-turn mower is too wide to fit through most gates so he has to use a push mower, & at 83 in Alabama summers, that’s getting pretty difficult.

Just saw the most breathless attempt to claim that Renee Good wasn’t a “Real Christian” and it was the most backbendy No True Scotsman fallacy I’ve seen in a long time.

Super jealous of all the posts I’m seeing coming from the AHA conference. Went last year and loved it! New job circumstances and finances prevented me from going this year, but hoping I can go again soon!

the Catholic Church being right about 60% of the time these days takes some getting used to
Editorial in the National Catholic Reporter: "The vice president's comments justifying the death of Renee Good are a moral stain on the collective witness of our Catholic faith. His repeated attempts to blame Good for her own death are fundamentally incompatible with the Gospel."
Catholic Vice President Vance takes to social media to justify killing of Renee Good
After the tragic shooting of Renee Good at the hands of ICE, the Catholic vice president of the United States took to social media to justify the killing.

Had an argument on FB with someone about the ICE shooting. He fell back to the argument of, “It’s easy for us to be Monday Morning Quarterbacks, but the officer was making a split second decision!” To which I said, “Don’t you feel that logic should also apply to the woman in the car??” Crickets.
The reactionary centrist logic is simple: if the left does something bad it’s the left’s fault, and if the right does something bad, it’s also the left’s fault for making them do it. It’s a simple formula and once you see it every one of their arguments is the same
