Now 18 hours left—as someone with lupus, I know that going without consistent food & water leads to organ failure, and Sarah is facing not only that but a COMPLETE lack of treatment. Help her afford medicine.

Even a small donation could really help get Nabil the creams he needs for his skin (going to put a picture in the replies here)
I’m sharing a Palestinian account every day and today is Eman. Before this she stayed home with her children Nabil, 7, Muhammad, 4 and Taim, 2 and her husband was a barber. Her husband was shot in the foot trying to get aid and Nabil is suffering from severe skin infections from contaminated water.

Please share, 17 hours left ⚠️

Last winter was deadly for children exposed to cold in their tents. Dozens of children died. And almost all of these six families are a) children and b) in tents.

Hell with shelter, winter clothes. and blankets. Nothing less than LIFESAVING. 0/1000

It’s not the “parallels with Nazi Germany” we need to worry about these days but the parallels with the USA. We have our own pound-shop Trump and acolytes and a press that seems to want them to be in charge. They already are in some places. Well done everyone.
Finding it difficult to not believe that Britain is slowly heading down the same road as the USA and that there’s a real chance we end up with our very own white supremacist government here in a few years time.

As EDI roles & projects pop up about getting more POC visitors in heritage/rural/green spaces, I wonder how much effort is put into addressing the racist structures/beliefs/actions of both the institution and the surrounding community? Or are we just another source of untapped market to profit from?

Last week, I had the privilege of seeing Nabihah Iqbal DJ at the Jazz Cafe Festival, and I felt like I was instantly transported through time and space to 1980s India, when disco took it by storm. I imagined an alternate universe, or perhaps it was a past life I was seeing through snippets 💖

I notice that when I tell people I studied Geology, especially when I travel, one of the first responses I get are “so do you work in mining or oil/gas/energy” which makes me cringe. But even when I was an undergrad, I thought I’d be limited to these jobs, and that almost put me off pursuing it.

I'm looking for recommendations for texts/resources providing an intro to social science methods - can anyone help?

Bonus if they focus on social justice, health/medicine, or science and technology studies 🙌🏾

I am so grateful for people like @drmadina.bsky.social, @pokubakes.com, @ellietheelement.bsky.social. Life has tough, painful phases and joyful, rewarding phases. My close friends know it’s been incredibly difficult since March. It felt like wave after waves, I’m tired of making the best of it.

Or when middle class folks critique that left/progressive is made of privileged people/young university students/liberal art graduates. Yes, there’s criticism on how middle class left folks do politics but this is erasure of the many grass root, working class approaches politics and community.
It drives me mad when financially stable people scoff at the idea of community work and volunteering. "Not unless I get paid" because they coded themselves to think that every interaction they have with the world, has to be monetised.

Not everything has to turn profit.
Resistance isn’t only huge actions. Resistance can be:
-Supporting libraries
-Serving at a soup kitchen
-Sending a few bucks to mutual aid
-Donating new/gently used items
-Checking in on neighbors
-Offering your services pro-bono
-Volunteering
-Neighborhood cleanups
Helping each other is powerful

I wonder how all those institutions that released decolonisation statements are doing?

Have they looked into how much they invest into arms, fossil fuel, and mining? How much of their money goes into the oppression of Palestine, Congo, Sudan and indigenous communities around the world?
February 10, 2025 at 2:21 PM
Hmm, Science and Industry Museum in Manchester has a curator on the Legacies of Enslavement… wonder how it will connect to the profits the Science Museum Group benefits from with the slavery happening in the fossil fuel and mining companies it has accepted sponsorship from.

Begging folks in the UK who are acting as armchair commentators on the US rollback of DEI initiatives actually pay attention to how it’s emboldening your politicians here to be louder about their anti-DEI politics.
“How is that, in the name of inclusion, the word ‘woman’ has been erased from NHS documents?” Wes Streeting writes in his column in the S*n today.

“But the NHS has got to stop doing daft nonsense. It is going through the worst crisis in its history. It can’t afford to be distracted by ideologues."

Yes!

To be continuously horrified and be paralysed by the growing fascist acts of Trump/US is a failure to see how different forms of oppression (racism, sexism, transphobia, classism, ableism) are connected. This is the time to re-imagine and take action through people power to the world we want.
READ THIS ASAP:
“If we continue to be gripped with outrage and stilled by stupefaction by each day’s new proclamation, we will fail to discern what links them. To be gripped by his statements is precisely the aim of their utterance.”

he is accepted immediately.

Folks, out of curiosity, if you don’t live with your parents, how often do you talk to them on the phone or visit them?

Zero is also a completely valid answer especially if you’ve had to make the decision to cut them off.

I personally think that people need to learn that there are other ways to be political than just voting and we need to divest both from these two party political systems as well as the US-centric attitude.

There’s so many grassroots, community approaches to support each other and create change.
