NEW VIDEO!!! From the gutting of USAID to the invasion of Venezuela, it's safe to say Trump's foreign policy program seems erratic. In this video I look at the fascistic overreach charicteristic of these dying days of American Empire

‘The time of monsters’: everyone is quoting Gramsci – but what did he actually say?
Line handily sums up people’s bewilderment at state of world, but it isn’t quite what the Marxist thinker wrote

The ending of this book is one of the most absolutely bleak things I've ever read.
8. David Peace, "GB84" -- horrifying, bleak and brilliant. A political gothic novel that understands the past as a crime scene to be exhumed. What an absolutely incredible book. Going to have to read everything he's published now.

Have very much enjoyed this ongoing series on haunted house cinema, and reading it back I think this is a really good piece on a wildly under-rated film thehaunt.substack.com/p/the-haunte...

Current reading, a literary montage that occults the recent past into a complete nightmare - history becomes both a horror story and a crime scene. Incredible, what an astonishing book.

Any time I look to see what the Labour government is up to in the UK it turns out to be things like making posters that Alfonso Cuarón put in the background of the long tracking shot that opens “Children of Men”.

Every instance of "AI democratizes the arts, you're classist and ableist and a gatekeeper for trying to stop it" is a slap in the face to the literally centuries of poor, disabled people making art on the margins and a crass lie in service of a machine that strips down and regurgitates dreams

A (typically) superb episode of one of my favorite podcasts 👻👻👻
On @tendersubject.bsky.social we were joined by @feraljokes.bsky.social and @raygonne.bsky.social from @culdesacofblood.bsky.social to talk Frankenstein! We dissect the book & the 2025 film through queer & Marxist theory & get into why the film often let us down.
