Thought of you @ericdienstfrey.bsky.social when I happened upon this paragraph in Europe Central just now. Ended having to look it up because so much in here is embellished for dramatic (or comic) effect. The Kino checks out, apparently. Does the sound stuff?

Very sad to learn this news. Larry took me under his wing while I was an intern at LC Recorded Sound in 2004. Gave me cool projects to work on, took me to local gigs, introduced me to everyone he ran into. Made a big difference in my life that I’ll never forget
RIP Larry Appelbaum. That's him in w/ mustache in 1981 when he was a jazz dj @ WMUC @ the U. of MD. He became a WPFW jazz dj & worked @ the Library of Congress where he found an unreleased Thelonious Monk tape, booked music movies & concerts. He wrote for Jazz Times, booked dj jazz gigs. I Miss him

Every time I listen to this it’s better than I’d remembered
Folks rightfully digging 600-mph DeJohnette on the new McCoy Tyner/Joe Henderson should definitely check out "Climax" from the shelved 1965 Jackie McLean session that would eventually come out as Jacknife in 1975. Shit is blistering. youtu.be/OQmNBz9NwT0?...

Shame there aren’t more published recordings of Eric Dolphy playing with ESP-era Bob James.
