Ben Lamar Gay absolutely brilliant in Cafe Oto last night, a genuine original.

Buffalo 66 with Big Bird as Billy Brown (neat alliterative name synching going on too)
Inverse Muppet premise: take a movie and replace one character with a Muppet. Everyone else stays human.

Alarmed by how close this Partridge get-up is to stuff I wear myself. Convincing myself he’s got cooler but we all really know what’s actually happening here.

Whenever I see one of these ‘series of celebrated novels bound together in a beautiful gift Hardback’ I only ever think of 1 thing.

Me when people are losing their minds trying to get Oasis/Radiohead tickets: “what is it with these people going crazy just to see bands from the 90s, don’t these people listen to any new music?”

Me when Super Furry Animals tickets go on pre-sale:

So fucking depressed by the state of politics/discourse in this country, esp the supposedly mainstream left/centre politicians and media who are too cowardly/careerist to call out what’s happening here right now. This is exactly how we end up with a fash gov’t in 18 months time. Wake up dickheads.

“Find It” by The Carrie Nations in Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls
There's a small genre of song that's like "song created for a movie that is supposed to be a hit song within the fictional world of the movie."

Have any been actual good-enough-to-be-hits besides "Golden" and "I Am A Man of Constant Sorrow?"

Hi @rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social
Out of interest if someone with a huge platform had publicly invited people to commit serious violence against you and then, rightly, under longstanding laws of this nation, been arrested for this, would you now be mocking the police for doing so?
September 4, 2025 at 8:41 AM
I’m going to bang the drum for the terminally unfashionable ‘You’re Under Arrest’ to get a look-in here. Whilst his many 70s electric masterpieces pictured will probably quite rightly dominate the piece I still feel that particular slice of tasteless 80s sleaze has a unique place in his catalogue.
I know you love him madly so let’s journey far in to yesternow and help me decide which ten releases - live, studio and archive - should be included in @mojomagazine.bsky.social’s
How To Buy Electric (era) Miles (Davis).
Best comments, as ever, will be included in the mag.

Perhaps, one day, schoolkids will study this squalid little chapter in British terror-panic history. When they do, I hope these two headlines from today are printed side by side, with clear annotation of which individual faced more outrage and condemnation.

#BookSky hivemind - what's the best NON-fiction book you've read so far this year, please? Doesn't have to be published in 2025 but usual rules apply - has to be available in the UK, and can't consider *anything* self-published. Reposts appreciated.

An alert to all creatives using #WeTransfer. Basically, stop immediately! As of August, they will begin scraping everything you send for AI purposes (see the new paragraph in their Terms and Conditions below).

If, like me, you’re a voice artist, they’ll clone your voice. Avoid at all costs.

Next up for me is this. LOVED Ablutions so had extremely high hopes but 50 pages in this has already surpassed them. Jesus he can write.

Really loved this by @wednesdayerskin.bsky.social, it draws characters with incredible detail and uses a litany of disparate voices to tell a real story in a sad, funny way. Highly recommended.

You could not find a more perfect metaphor for how McSweeney et al see the general public as just a disposable nuisance who stand in the way of them doing what they want.
Morgan McSweeney (UK Labour's Dominic Cummings knock-off) is reportedly experimenting with 'synthetic voters' – "essentially fake focus groups of AI voters who can tell ministers more quickly and cheaply what the public thinks of policies" www.spectator.co.uk/article/can-...

Naming no names, but was transfixed to see this being used in the preparation of Christmas dinner last year. Best before 1987.
Suffered no ill effects mind.

Few (if any) writers give me more joy than James Sallis and this new (to me at least) collection of shorts doesn’t miss.

Strong memories of being 21 in 1999, having that one mate who’d bought the Pet Sounds box (an album I already loved) inviting us round for a sesh and having my mind absolutely scrambled by the acapella disc.
Legitimately life-changing.

RIP Brian.
