I just wrote a new essay about how there is no “normal” for society to return to. We, like all societies, are at a crossroads and we either move forward or we move backwards.

Everything is so expensive (and about to get worse) that I, a graduate student, have to pick up a second job to make ends meet. Which will take even more away from the time I can put into my writing and academic scholarship.

But I was told Capitalism is the most effective system … 🤦🏿

Since it’s Easter I just want to say that Jesus was a man put to death by the carceral state for challenging systemic power with love.

As a Christian, for me, Easter is about Liberation and Abolition. Jesus’ resurrection shows that there is a hope beyond the limited view forced on us by the system

Why with Al Sharpton and not actual scholars and researchers of race, racism, and diversity. Sharpton gets too much credit for movements he didn’t start.

Writers and academics … what has been keeping you inspired during this time. I’m struggling to find things to write about or things I can write about that are actually in my wheel house. I got no short story ideas, no essay ideas, nothing! Any tips?

Longest speaking filibuster ever was 24 hours, 18 minutes by Strom Thurmond in opposition to the Civil Rights Act of 1957.

In a few hours, that record will be shattered by Sen. Cory Booker, a Black man, laying out the case for saving democracy from an aspiring despot.

One thing Democratic leadership could do right now is to name an alternate HHS secretary--someone to provide ongoing public updates and health information. And do it for other departments too. Start showing voters what a Democratic government would look like--press conferences, speeches, all of it.
