That is the flaw of the West; every imperial force looks back to Rome as an ideal empire but then arrogantly thinks that it can succeed where Rome had failed. The modern empires and modern emperors believe that unlike Rome, when time fades away, the decaying atoms will sing of their specific empire. The unfortunate reality is that ruins are the fate of every empire because imperialism is a dualistic prophecy, one that promises prosperity and also demise. This is the nature of empires and, by extension, the nature of imperialism, but the Western World has yet to figure this out. The Western World contuines to crave imperial power and tries to access it over and over and over again, always trying to best their Roman progenitor.
