Despite tireless advocacy from Texans, leaders did not even call a hearing on Raise the Age this session. Lawmakers are ignoring the voices of Texans they are supposed to serve.

Three years ago today, 19 students and 2 teachers were killed by a shooter at Robb Elementary school. We will always remember their names and stand beside the Uvalde community. We will never stop fighting to prevent tragedies like this from happening again.

Our Raise the Age Day of Action is 4/18 — the two-year anniversary of the committee hearing on HB 2744.

The fight to raise the age to 21 to purchase semi-automatic rifles like AR-15’s continues. Despite overwhelming public support, lawmakers have taken no significant action in favor of this policy.

On January 13, 19-year-old Zacchaeus Selby-Mukum, who had been injured in the 2021 Timberview High School shooting, was found dead by gun-wound in Arlington. Two months later, the 17-year old suspect of his murder was arrested in Fort Worth.

Dallas CRED, a community violence intervention program, will no longer be formally operating due to lack of funding. In its formal 3 year run, Dallas CRED says it saw violent incidents its operating areas decrease by 8% and killings decrease by 50%.
