Another thing I've been thinking about lately is flies. This could apply to any other decomposer, really, but there's something beautiful about it- they live off of death, and are a very good prey themselves. It's like a forest fire, it's like us.

While walking along the rocky shore, I found the world’s most poisonous crab.

It’s safe as long as you don’t eat it, so I carefully admired its stunning metallic beauty 🦀✨️

Going all the way back to Gili T - I was amazed at how many Peacock Mantis Shrimp there are there! I know I say this about most critters, but these have to be one of my faves!

The Pink Hairy Squat Lobster (Lauriea siagiani) is a small crustacean that lives on barrel sponges in the Indo-Pacific region. It is more closely related to crabs than lobsters & is known for its color & hair-like structures called setae, which help it sense vibrations & filter food.

Ridley is a young male manta. Last weekend, he was hooked by a fisherman after divers watched them cast lines in his path.

An aerial survey yesterday found 3 of 4 mantas off South FL dragging fishing line.

We’re fighting for a no-take protected area for Ridley and the other mantas.

New #moon arrives at 6:47 UTC tomorrow morning, or overnight tonight in the Americas. We can't see the moon from Earth now, as its unlit side faces us in the daytime sky. But the GOES-19 satellite can! That's the moon at lower right, lit by reflected light from Earth.
