She is an empty suit, of course. And an absolute nasty piece of cornbread.

She is also, to my somewhat trained ear, absolutely, positively terrified here. She is either intimidated by the process or deeply anxious about her relationship with her boss. Or both.

But she is terrified.
The question for Baghdad Bondi was, how many of Epstein’s co-conspirators and pedophiles have you indicted or investigated?

Answer: The Dow is over $50K.

Organized action averted ethnic cleansing in Ohio for now. But DHS hasn't been idle, turning attention to voting. This is all connected: Trump tells lies about immigrants voting; this becomes an excuse to make it harder for citizens to vote; DHS is central to both

I wish my colleagues had given more attention to pieces I reported on J6 plotting and things @denverr.bsky.social had in our book. I still wish this was true! I can also do my own mea culpa. I should have paid more attention to all this in November and December 2020. Mistakes were made!
Media is a fun punching bag - and believe me as someone who spent years focusing on J6 I wanted more from colleagues and understand the gripe - but basically every institution played a part in not responding to this strongly enough. Look at how Brazil and South Korea dealt with similar situations.

Reporter: Do any of you have a favorite animal?

Child: My favorite one is a gold snake that can move. It has gold eyes, and it has a super-duper tail…

Reporter: Mr. Mamdani, the second question for you.

Mamdani: Yes. It’s also the golden snake.

By the way, for those of you not in MN: Homan’s strategy was to withdraw some agents, so it felt like we were in the denouement of the crisis, and then escalate hard against observers. They’re being incredibly aggressive with observers now. National media may not want to check out just yet

Federal judge rules DOJ can ‘no longer’ be trusted in voter roll crusade
The judge pointed to a letter from Bondi to Minnesota that tied federal immigration enforcement to demands for voter data as the smoking gun.

One would hope that media outlets eventually understood that many of their readership woes stem from having no standards for conservatives.

But the reality is that management prioritizes right-wing propaganda over profits, so they're not going to change.
👀 Apparently, Ross Douthat invited Seth Harp to debate him on Douthat's "Interesting Times" NYT podcast. Harp says that the episode was recorded, Douthat got crushed, and RD/NYT decided not to publish it.

Context: this speech is from SIR THOMAS MORE, a history written, as near as scholars can tell, in the early 1600s by 6 or 7 people including Dekker, Heywood, Chettle, Shakespeare, and Munday.

It was never performed, because Jacobean England was a police state and it was banned by the censor.
Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.
