Every so often I think about the #PublishingPaidMe discourse back on Twitter, how enlightening that was. If we don't talk about these things (read: money), people will continue to be taken advantage of, or misled.

I work for the public library but I am not a librarian. Occasionally, I'll do class visits, panels, readings, and workshops. Occasionally, I will win a grant. I do not and have never made a livable wage from writing.
I know we know this, but authors need to get better at talking about how they actually make their money. Stop pretending it's from the books.

LOVE IS FOR THE ONES WHO LOVE THE WORK
Every single actual creative person has experienced the experience of finding effortless what was once effortful.

A generative AI user is completely alienated from this experience, it's alien and unfamiliar to feel pride in the outcome. Or, even to actually give a fuck about it at all.

The open secret that Thomas King is not Indigenous at all is finally verified, and honestly it's a relief. Having him just confess this instead of going out kicking and screaming like so many before him causes a LOT less harm to Indigenous communities.

It still sucks though.

Just for my own edification, if you are BIPOC and living in Canada and write gothic horror do you mind saying hi to me on this thread?

Off the bat respectfully I know of Silvia Moreno-Garcia, Premee, Nalo Hopkinson, I love all of their work and have their books.

I did the thing you're not supposed to do. I went to bed at 8pm and woke up at 3am, fully rested. Trying to get back to sleep now 🫠

While watching Frankenstein, I found the instances of physical touch and affection so interesting. How vital it can be in affirming humanity and relationships.

Watching the new Frankenstein, having studied the history of medicine (within the broader history and philosophy of science), is so fascinating
