I'm kind of a transgender matriarch.
I transitioned in 1983, the Reagan Era, and kept my teaching job with the Baltimore City Public Schools in Maryland, USA.
Here's an image from my first year of teaching as my authentic self. It's hard to believe that that was 41 years ago.

Can you have loss if you come out? Yes. I lost a spouse and more. But I gained so much, it exceeds and eclipses. I have grown. I have love again and many more friends. I have community.
I will no longer die a lonely old man asking "what if."

Once you take the first steps, the courage feeds on itself. Coming out can change you, more than you might expect.
I was told by my ex even a few years ago that it was not a good atmosphere to be coming out.
It wasn't a choice, like wearing a bow tie. I'm me, I must live my life as my true self. I was afraid but I drove forward, as I had turned back too often and that hurt more.
I am out, free, me. Happiness.
