“You blinkered beast! Don’t be sorry for showing off awesome powers!” Tori said.
Tina added; My Aludim is right, Bill! Just be wary to use too much power, both you and your Aludim could suffer. We don’t want you drained or in an early coffin that quickly.
“Can I really cause Ar’Thyls death if I overheat?” Bill asked bewildered.
Ar’Thyl placed his forehead against Bill. It is so, Aludim. As bonded Aludim’s, we are connected. Though what Tina says is correct in the statement, it takes much more power than you used today to burn up.
“Good!” Tina laughed. “I did not have ‘hold vigil’ on my bingo card today!”
“So, I can fly, using water to change states to lighter than air gases. I think.” Bill tried to veer the conversation away from his potential impending demise. Wordlessly he thanked the Light that the experiment had gone well, and thatched hoped he could replicate it – with eyes opened – soon.
Tori broke his concentration, “well, I think we got far today. We’ll do more tomorrow, if you’re up for it. Tonight, are you joining us for dinner? I don’t think you’ve met my love, Anthony, and my best buddy Nick with his Elijah?”
“Ar’Thyl pointed Anthony out to me when we toured the city, he was concentrating on some screens in one of the windows.”
“That sounds like it. Antin and Nyx have been missing three days now, we cannot figure out what happened to them.”
Bill looked at Ar’Thyl and took a breath. «I had a dream last night: I saw a town, it felt like a different time. I could feel Antin there. I also think I senses Nyx there too.”
«What? You Dream too? Boy you’re a powder keg og abilities! Another time, eh? That would change things. Come on, we need to tell Anthony, maybe he can find something in the city’s systems.

They came into the park, Bill noticed Ar’Thyl and Tina stood on the small hill following them affectionately.
Trust yourself, and have fun Aludim, Ar’Thyl murmured in the back of his mind.
“So, Bill, my elements are Air and Water.” Tori said, “I can call water with my mind, and use air to direct the wind or even lift myself up.” She drew water from the sea in several directions. Whirling it around herself. She lifted off the ground while still surrounded by swirling water – which created a woven shape around her.
She doesn’t even look like she is straining! Bill thought, before complimenting her when she curbed the flows and settled on the ground again.
«Now, the Edroth say you’ve displayed affinity for Light, but Ar’Thyl says he things you at least have something to do with water or weather – which could be either air or water – or both emerging simultaneously. Now, let’s start with the element you’ve mastered.” Tori put on a pair of sunglasses. «Hit me with Light dude!”
Remain grounded, focus on the Light and you’ll do fine Aludim.
He heard the affectionate tone of Ar’Thyl as he centered himself. A memory stirred, Cecilie – Zhe’ra- had taught him to meditate like this when he was little. He had forgotten! Closing his eyes he daughter the Light inside. Felt it flow through him like a river. Focused on beaming.
“OMG!” Tori said, “you really can shine like the sun!” She hid behind her elbow. “Ok, ok, ok! Shut off solar boy!”
He remained glowing, he felt he could do more. He sensed he could feel the water around him, and he thought he could fly… this connection to the Light was stronger than he’d ever felt! Like a confession engine to his souls secrets. He felt like he could lift off and fly, using the Light and the water molecules around himself, just a little higher he thought he could go…
"Slow down boy!!!” Tori screamed.

Bill opened his eyes and saw he was higher than the tower! His connection burst and he fell. Fell straight onto Ar’Thyl who had moved in anticipation of this. They returned down together.
“Way to show off newbie!” Tori said softly. Tina was stood by her now.
“I’m sorry” Bill murmured. He tried to make sense of the experience but it felt like the memory of all he’d experienced was just out of reach.

Waking up the next morning by his phone ringing jolted him up in a moment.
“Hey mom!” He answered.
“Hi Bill, so good to hear from you! I was getting worried when you didn’t call after you arrived yesterday.” Rebecca said, “how are they treating you there?”
Bill told her about the city, how he’d met some other people and how much more he had to discover. She asked him about how his new home looked, and he promised to send pictures. Heading into the living room he noticed it was still dark, looking up he saw the empty sky. So many unlit constellations.
“Om, mom, I think we know how we can come get you and gramps. Just let me know when you have a weekend free, I’ll dapple with some options, but I’m confident we can do that!”
“Do you have room for us, or do we have to find a motel or something?” Rebecca asked. “We don’t want to be a bother.”
“Mom - it’s settled, we’ve found apartments we think you’ll like.”
She kept asking more questions, but in the end he managed to steer the conversation to an end. He promised to call tomorrow and set up the visit.
Good morning my willful Aludim, Ar’Thyl said, everything ok with your mom? Your moral compass seemed to take all sorts of turns in that call.
“Nah, it’s just how one talks to a mom. Truth but in measured ways…” Bill laughed.
I thought of something you said yesterday.
“Oh? What?”
You mentioned how you felt the storm approaching. I wonder if we should ask Tori if she can test the water element with you, or air.
“That sounds cool, I thought it was just air pressure or so, but I’ve always been able to feel heavy rain or storms rolling in. I think…”
Maybe there is a connection to your power there.
It didn’t take long until Bill heard a knock that sounded like someone was pounding it more than knocking. Opening the door he found Tori smiling widely,
“I hear we need to test some training! Ready? Come let’s go to the park.”
Bill didn’t really have time to process before she dragged him towards the elevator…

The elevator was weird. A type of force field went across the opening, going opaque with a golden sheen, and he didn’t feel any movement before it went clear and disappeared and they were in a part of the building he didn’t know.
“That door there,” she pointed, “leads to the council chamber. The one on the other side leads to some work rooms with computers etc. the big one down the hall is the exit that leads to the park. The door beside it goes all the way around to the front door leading to the square on the other side of this massive building.”
Bill stopped. “Do you ever need to stop for air?”
Tori laughed, “Anthony often says the same. Come, I wanna see what you can do!”

Bill sat on the ledge of Ar’Thyl’s entrance looking out over the sea beyond, which reflected the crescent moon above. His back rested on Ar’Thyl while he mulled over all he’d learned tonight. Zhe’ra had spoken of her long life, how she’d felt violated so many times in the past, but now she’d finally found her real home. Something in her bearing had changed, yet he could see a pain in her anyway.
«Do you think she’ll find Nera again?” He quietly asked Ar’Thyl.
The journey of the soul is long. We Edroth gained sentience when the first Edroth joined with the Cosmic Conciousness, the very force within the Light. Our souls are emanations of Light itself and spend many cycles here on Tellus before we rejoin the Light beyond.
Bill felt like his brain was on fire – so many thoughts, so much knowledge to learn. “So, when her soul is ready, she might return? I hope they recognize each other once more!”
Zhe’ra claims to have met her soulmate twice before. True soulmates can recognize themselves in many ways. I believe the possibility is there.
“I wonder if I have a soulmate.” Bill had an unknown figure seared in his mind; Whoever it was filled him with comfort. “I think I do.”
The universe is vast, most people never meet a soulmate. But there is a raft floating on the sea of hope, occasionally we find it. Almost like me finding you.
“How did you find me? And Castor Zhe’ra? From the news it seems Tori, Anthony, Nick, and Elijah knew they were Aludim even before the Edroth arrived.”

When Al’Edos was but drowned firmament, we all emigrated to another dimension, one slightly further from the Light. Most of our number stayed in communities, but some roamed far. Castor, like his parent before him, like me, roamed far from the community of Edroth. We didn’t know of the prophesy or the birth of the four until after the portal to Tellus opened again. Then we sensed a change, and sought it out. That’s when we realized this feeling we’ve had since birth – was our Aludim trying to connect.
“So, the reason why Zhe’ra could do ‘magic’ was because she was connected to Castor even though neither party knew? And the reason she could sense I had a connection to the Light from birth – that was because I was connected to you?”
That’s right Aludim. It is getting late, how about we continue this in the morning? If Ar’Thyl could sound tired, he did.
Bill got up and was ready to head downstairs and head to bed. «Good night Ar’Thyl!”
Good night Aludim! Ar’Thyl said as he rearranged himself.

Zhe’ra was silent for a moment before meeting his eyes. “My name is Zhe’ra, I am 930 or so years old. Through my life I have had many names, you know me as Cecilie.”
Bill felt goosebumps unfurl on his skin. “Why do I feel there’s more to your story? Why were there pictures of my family in your kitchen?”
“You saw them? Now they are here, in my new home.” She said.
“That doesn’t explain…” bill started before Ar’Thyl stopped him.
Let her explain herself. Then I think you should describe your dreams. I saw glimpses through our bond. I think I know one of your powers, but we need to understand.
Zhe’ra smiled. “Thank you Ar’Thyl. My dearest William. I have watched over you since you were born. When Thomas, your father died I held you while you cried. I cried too. Thomas was my great grandson. You are my great great grandson. And the first of my lineage to be born with power.” She looked at Castor. “Bonded to an Edroth.” She laughed. “I didn’t know until you told me of them two days ago – I thought the zodiac had aligned finally, for you to be born”
Bill didn’t know what to believe but he felt the story deep in his heart as true. She was his ancestor. He decided to follow another thread instead; “What did you mean Ar’Thyl, about my dreams?”

Bill recounted his dream uncertainly.at least ones that didn’t have to do about Antin, but Zhe’ra confirmed that everything he’d seen were ancestral whispers of her life. At the mention of the cabin, she teared up.
«That’s where I lived with Nera, the great love of my life.”
“What happened to her?” Bill asked.
“She was brutally murdered by her manager, her superior on the ship she worked on. It was a brutal end, muntlige would’ve ended too unless I happened upon a portal that took me to London in 1503.”
“Oh! That’s awful!” Bill was glad he hadn’t seen that part.
Zhe’ra smiled. “Would you like to come eat dinner with me? We can talk more about any questions you might have.”
Bill and Ar’Thyl thought that was a good idea, so while Ar’Thyl and Castor went on a flight, Zhe’ra and Bill relaxed in each others company.

I’m so glad I don’t have to wear goggles when we fly! Bill said, as they rounded the tower and came into land at their place. Bill could see wings unfurling in the next apartment over and asked his Aludim who it was.
That is Castor, my parent. He is currently home, and I’ll introduce you later if you wish.
“You keep saying parent, do you only have one? Did your mom die?” Bill asked, afraid he’d offended Ar’Thyl.
Edroth only have one parent. We produce eggs through joining with the Light. But only a very few eggs are ever produced. The Edroth needs to feel called to it, and the conditions need to be right.
“Ah, ok. Well then, I’d say ‘Lead me to your parent!’ But I think I need to lay down a little bit first. Oh, is his Aludim here too?” Bill asked as he climbed off Ar’Thyl and headed for the ladder.
Ar’Thyl seemed to think for a moment – or maybe he was talking to Castor – Bill didn’t know.
Zhe’ra is currently not here, but he says she’ll be back in a little while.
“Wake me up,” Bill yawned, “when she gets here and we’ll go say hi.” He said as he climbed down and headed to the bedroom.
I will, rest well Aludim of mine. Ar’Thyl said, as he himself curled up to rest.
Bill had found the light switch and laid there in total darkness. He tried to sleep but found himself tense, like something was nagging at him that he couldn’t quite identify. In the end he tried meditating, reaching the Light with his mind, until he fell asleep as the storm raged on outside.
In his dreams he saw people changing faces, becoming whatever adopted personae they needed. Time changed, he saw a village, then a cabin in some wood somewhere tropical. Bill couldn’t make heads or tails of it. But the person seemed familiar.
Aludim, Castor says Zhe’ra and him are ready to greet us in the atrium when you are ready.

Ar’Thyls voice roused him from the uneasy sleep. I’m coming, just give me a few minutes. He replied as he stumbled across to the bathroom. After using the utilities, he splashed some water on his face and fixed his hair to its usual wonky stylized mess.
I’ll meet you in the atrium Aludim, Ar’Thyl said
Bill smiled, ok, I’m ready. Coming. He walked through his little hallway and exited out the door to the atrium. And stopped flat. In front of him was a Edroth easily three times bigger than Ar’Thyl, deep red, almost scarlet.
Hello young Aludim, I am Castor.
“Hi,” Bill said, “I’m Bill, eh, Ar’Thyl’s Aludim, I guess…”
Ar’Thyl rumbled merrily in his head as the door next to his opened and a woman in her early forties came out.
“William?” The woman said, startled, before she smiled. “I always knew you were powerful.”
Bills mind raced. Who is this woman, how does she know me? She seems,,, familiar…the features. Reminded him of…
“Aunt Cecilie?”

As they were passing the square Bill spotted a man sitting in a room lit up by screens, though he somehow looked ascetic. Ar’Thyl noticed Bills gaze, and said, that’s Anthony, Tori’s soulmate. Ever since Antin and Nyx disappeared, he’s been scouring the known world for traces of where they’ve disappeared too.
“So, you really can’t find them?” Bill asked, head stooped., he got a feeling, like a reflex, that told him to join the search. Why can’t I get them out of my mind?
It seems they’ve managed to vanish off the face of the planet. Anthony is worried that Darkness is the cause.
A thunderbolt cracked through what sounded like a scornful sky. “I think it’s going to start raining.” Bill said, looking at the sky. Somehow, he felt like he could feel the humidity in the clouds starting to burst. It felt, weird. He hoped he wasn’t experiencing emotional derailment…
Ar’Thyl searched the sky with his senses. You are right, shall we return to our home?
“Soon, soon. But what is that building Anthony is in?”
That part of the building is the university. A place for people to learn skills to benefit the planet. Also, where the technical hub of the island is located.
Bill kept looking round the square. Spotting doors and windows that might be shops of various types, and more residential areas. “What’s the rest of the building then?”
That’s the hospital. In fact, one of the four first Aludims, Nick, was so injured they needed the islands technology to heal him with Light in there. And the rest are stores, cafes and places to get food.
With another look toward the sky, Bill decided. “Can we head up to the room now?”
Sure, come on up and we’ll fly. Ar’Thyl knew Bill could take the stairs, but he still… wanted to fly with him. Float together.

Why is European and Canadian news broadcast so much easier to follow and listen to than us?

They don’t scream for attention, and are rarely bought by corporate greed I think….

Chapter 2

They flew around the library, where Ar’Thyl landed in a space similar to his own residence. Bill thought he saw signs of life in the residence next door, and asked, “who lives there?”
That is the rooms the city allocated to another Aludim pair, Antin & Nyx.
“Oh, I know them, are they here?”
The elders don’t know if it’s rebellious or antisocial behaviour, but, they disappeared onto another slapdash adventure, I’m sure, two days ago. Nobody knows where they are.
“Two days ago? I met them three days ago, at home. I helped them free Nyx from a swarm of purple-eyed toads.
Oh? From the inception the whole pairing of them has been out of our control. Bill started to say something, but Ar’Thyl continued: You need to ask the elders, but we know little about them or what they’ve been doing. He indicated to the end of the space, you see the door over there? That leads out to the other side. I can come with to the hallway, and we can view the other apartments.
Bill agreed but, not without protest: he had more questions. He walked to the back of the Edroth space and found a wide door, opening into a similar mingling space he remembered from his own flat. On the opposite side the space was split in two floors, so he walked across to open one of them up.
“These are just people sized ones?”
Yes, that side has 6 floors of apartments, while this other side has two Aludim floors.
He walked into a cozy apartment, with a nautical theme. Blue and green details, and an octopus was painted on the one wall. Its tentacles seemed so realistic! The apartment was otherwise like his own, a main room facing towards the square, Andy’s bedroom, and bathroom towards the back. A kitchen was set into the wall facing the bathroom.

So, do you think apartments like these can be ok for your mom and grandpa?
“This floral one is perfect for mom. I’m sure there is one gramps can use too!”

Ar’Thyl watched as his Aludim climbed back up to him, after he had explored his apartment and refreshed himself. I’m so happy I found him. And it didn’t take me 500 years!
“Hey Ar’Thyl, are you ready to show me where my mom and grandpa can stay? You seem lost in thought…”
No, no, I’m fine! Come, climb up on my back, then we’ll glide down. There are stairs and an elevator, though this is faster!
Bill got back up on Ar’Thyl and the Edroth took off in a passive downward glide. Man, it’s good there’s space between these buildings!
Yes, this passage is narrow for full grown Edroths, but we all have space to manage. Ar’Thyl replied.
They landed in the large square below. There were beautiful flowers in large pots set in symmetrical places, benches for people to sit at, and entrances to the buildings surrounding it. Ar’Thyl moved towards to the building opposite where their apartment faced in the tower. This is the library. There are more spaces for Aludim above it on the ocean-facing side, and small apartments for humans in the square facing parts.
Bill walked up to the entrance, it was easily ten meters tall, if not taller, and quite wide too. Looking down he walked across the cyclopean threshold, and entered the room with reverence. “This library is massive!” But then his eyes saw all the shelves he could see were empty, “but am I kooky or aren’t there any books here?”
The books did not survive the almost twelve millennia below the ocean Al’Edos endured. Ar’Thyl said solemnly.
Bill noticed some stone tablets written in a strange unknown language. “What’s that?”
That is the story of the end of that old time. When a man named G’Roth tried to bring the world into Darkness. Ar’Thyl gazed at the tablets. It’s a sad story, I’ll tell it to you someday.
Along walls Bill could see massive screens, with a type of joystick below. “Are those computers for Edroth?”

Stepping into his new life, Bill takes a moment to orient himself

Bill climbed down the ladder, noticing how the rungs were a part of the wall, not fastened to it. At the bottom he turned to see two vast windows, one on either side of the wall offering a view over the buildings opposite – and an unmissable view of the ocean beyond. How high is our elevation? Bill said, still admiring the vast view.
Ar’Thyl poked his head down the opening so he too could see down. We’re on the fifth level of apartments. Each level is about ten meters, just over two for the human, just under eight for the Edroth. In addition the council chambers are almost as tall as the other buildings, so only the lower levels have obstructed views on some angles.
“Oh,” Bill said out loud. “That’s quite high then!” The Edroth just rumbled in his mind as an answer. Turning around he saw what, by his reckoning, was the most awesome flat ever!
Considering it’s a huge vault in the tower, with windows only on one side. The living area was located around the windows, with a kitchen area towards the back of the space, three doors opened towards the back too.
Bill checked the first door, a bathroom with a toilet, a shower, and a washbasin. The second opened to a hallway leading to another door, which led to a large circular chamber. Some chambers here and there, a staircase going up and down, and doors leading, he thought, to other similar apartments. To one side he saw a room he thought might be a form of elevator.
The third door opened into a sleeping chamber. The ceiling had a circular opening that was closed by some sort of cover. A large bed in the center, with a screen on the wall opposite. Bill walked to the screen and held his hand over what he identified as a sensor. The screen sprang to life and a keyboard materialised from nothing.
This is so much cooler than the vintage typewriter mom had! He said.
Remember, this building was once the most advanced structure on the planet, might still be, I think. Ar’Thyl responded.

Ahead of them the city appeared. A small island, somewhat like an elongated circle, with a huge tower rising from the middle. Around it a series of other structures from the one side all the way to the side of the tower. Beyond it was a park, where Bill could see a large circle of stones around a center of larger stones.
Can I really live here? Bill wondered.
Ar’Thyl rumbled, there is no provisional status for an Aludim. You and I will always have a home here.
They came in to land in the park beyond the tower. Bill could see a woman stood there, and behind her an even bigger Edroth than Ar’Thyl. Who are they?
That is Tori, and behind her is Tina. They are one of the four original Aludim of this age. Ar’Thyl informed. The truth is, without the bravery of those four Aludim we never would have been able to return to this realm.
Bill almost ignored a follow up as he spotted a giant blueish Edroth land in the tower, just as another large reddish one leapt into the air carrying what looked like a woman. Who is that?
That is my parent, Castor, along with his Aludim, Zhe’ra. You’ll meet them later. Ar’Thyl said. Ready?
Bill tried a remark but was too awed. Yes, I’m ready.
They touched down in front of the two, Ar’Thyl beamed as he introduced them.
“Hi there Bill,” Tori said. “Welcome to Al’Edos! Hey, is that all the luggage you brought?” Indicating to his backpack. “No worries, the city will provide. Your rooms are ready, and you’re both welcome to join us in the main hall for a feast later.”
“Thank you!” Bill said. “Is there a shower? I feel like I need a full cleansing after the trip!” He laughed nervously.
Tori laughed, “just let Ar’Thyl here take you up and you can put your stuff on the table, and let me tell you: the showers here are amazing! No soap! They just clean!”
Tori speaks truth, another voice entered his mind. At a lookout Bills confused face, it continued, laughing I’m Tina, Boy! We can all speak like this – even you! And I offer thanks f…

Tori slapped her Aludim on her neck. “Don’t worry about Tina, she has no cultural finesse” then burst out in a laughing fit herself.
They said their goodbyes, and Bill climbed up on his Aludims back once more. Ar’Thyl took off and flew towards anopening in the tower, where he slowly landed.
This is my room, Ar’Thyl said. Your rooms are below, you can use the ladder he indicated to the corner of the room, where a large opening in the floor was, and a ladder was attached to the wall. Feel free to go downstairs and get yourself acquainted with your new home…
