this just makes me really really sad
Press conferences are terrible for getting full quotes and context out quickly. So here's the whole of what Vlatko Andonovski had to say about Bia playing through injury today:

Contrast this with the way the Spirit have handled recent injuries. Players are always going to want to play. Someone else has to be the adult and make the hard decision.

KC is an interesting one because there will always be that “what if” where temwa and mich were healthy and imo the game came down to tactical decision making between two very well-matched teams
I am interested/living in fear of what Kansas City is going to do in the winter window.
DC lost in the final and went to the checkbook. It’s paid dividends in building their depth when they needed it most. Will Kansas City follow suit?

i was on a zucchini kick allll summer but i think i finally found my new fall/winter obsession: sweet potatoes!!! so many diff options, roasted whole, mashed, fries, cubes, etc. i’ve been using it as a base for my sauce/beans/frozen veg “slop” dinners lately instead of bread or rice & it’s amazing

i feel like these quotes (esp aubrey and hal’s) really get to the core of why the spirit dominate in shootouts: the cyclical confidence that’s developed between aubrey and the penalty takers that feels so impenetrable within the team, to the opponents, and to the fans
"She shows what she is: one of the best goalkeepers in this league and in this country."
Esme Morgan, Hal Hershfelt, and Adrián González on the impact Aubrey Kingsbury has on opponents in shootouts, and Kingsbury's reaction to her colleagues' praise:

37.5% - In penalty shootouts in all competitions for #NWSL teams, Aubrey Kingsbury has saved 37.5% of the on-target penalties she has faced (9/24). All other goalkeepers have combined to save just 17.2% (20/116). Different.

i took this picture as they were prepping for penalties and just from this i knew we’d win — the spirit looked so much more composed and unified and ready
