So we're getting "TikTok with Chinese characteristics."

It's like this administration is utterly incapable of understanding what words mean to anyone else. For China, "with Chinese characteristics" basically means "the CCP is the final authority," as in "capitalism with Chinese characteristics."

So, this is quite the useful reminder, not just as we approach books but in other parts of our lives as well.

Other people can do things differently without being wrong. And even when they actually are wrong, sometimes the right course is just to let it go unless it actually hurts the results.
To that, I did not reply.

Anyway, I can't help thinking that going through life burdened with Complete Knowledge of Correctness, with an added Duty to Enforce Correctness must be kind of stressful and not conducive to joy.

I just finished watching the most recent episode of Foundation. I get the sense that someone in the writers room has read A Memory Called Empire. The character names Songbird-17 and Oceanglass-49 seem like definite nods to Teixcalaan names like Three Seagrass.

Jason Isbell's "If We Were Vampires" hit me hard after my cancer diagnosis. I'm fine now, but damn...

It′s knowing that this can′t go on forever
Likely, one of us will have to spend some days alone
Maybe we'll get 40 years together
But one day, I′ll be gone or one day, you'll be gone

Same here! Just getting into Folded Sky, and so identifying with Sunyata Song and her anxiety issues.
I've been working through the White Space novels, and they are *superb*. Elizabeth Bear has gotten onto my list of People I Wish I Wrote As Well As.
You occasional reminder that my new book, THE FOLDED SKY, is available for order from fine bookstores and online retailers everywhere, and also a nominee for the Dragon Award, which anyone can vote for.

One of my favorite annual @democracynow.org traditions is that we always play this video of James Earl Jones reading Frederick Douglass's speech "What to the Slave is the 4th of July?"

If you've never read or heard the speech, it's well worth your time.

Our country, right or wrong. When right, to be kept right, when wrong to be put right. If you want to be free, there is but one way; it is to guarantee an equally full measure of liberty to all your neighbors. There is no other.

As part of my annual physical, I got my MMR titers tested. Measles protection still going strong, but no protection against mumps of all things. So I'm getting new MMR booster this week, before it becomes illegal.
