In this paragraph, we have a heartbreakingly bleak portrait of American society as it actually exists.

Another important story today:

During the siege of Sarajevo, foreigners paid to travel on "safari" to Sarajevo via Serbia to shoot at besieged civilians from the hills.

Bosnian and Italian intelligence traced these flights to Serbia from Trieste. Justice may be coming.

My "they're just like us" moment came in 2009, I had a gig teaching ESL to Saudis a couple years older than me, all of us early 20s. We played Call of Duty and watched Top Gear, we liked all the same cars, same movies, same games.

Death to NATO fasciats

I don't get the "Illinois White Eagles" shit but I guess it's a nod to whiteness and of course Serbians all know Illinois

I want to see these *all over* Edison Park. The people out there all drive enormous SUVs and don't even acknowledge stop signs. There's zero traffic enforcement and tons of elderly people, and lots of residents are CPD/cop families with implied immunity. Super shitty situation.

Cheap tequila brands mix corn liquor into their recipes, too! Anything that doesn't advertise "100% agave" is likely to be partially corn swill.
The only valid vodkas are wheat, rye, or potato-based. Anything made with corn - like Tito's, Smirnoff, or UV - is going to have a sweet aftertaste, zero creaminess, and just zero panache whatsoever.

Want to get drunk on corn? Buy some Jack Daniels and walk into the ocean.

Controversial(?) Chicago opinion: Sultan's Market gets way too much hype and everything they do, Pita Inn does better (and for less money with tahini, hot sauce, and toum included)

The American military brass knows damn well a war with Iran would be bloody and even more embarrassing than Afghanistan and Iraq were.

Could the Americans pull off something that looked like a victory? Sure, but not before their Gulf State outposts were leveled.
Trump is threatening to bomb Iran if it doesn't make a nuclear deal that Trump previously pulled the US out of in 2018. This is like the tariff war but Trump gets to directly murder civilians as he flip flops and does Israel's bidding in the region.

Trump says "there will be bombing" if Iran does not make nuclear deal
U.S. President Donald Trump threatened Iran with bombings and secondary tariffs on Sunday if Tehran did not come to an agreement with Washington over its nuclear program.

The landmines are a desperate Biden admin's last ditch effort to demarcate which parts of Ukraine will be surrendered to Russia, and which will remain Western-aligned or nominally independent before the next administration takes power.

I'd wager the entire border with Belarus is mined.
I've seen firsthand what leftover landmines can do years after war ends. With this decision, the Biden Admin has abandoned any pretense of being on the side of the Ukrainian people. Ukrainians are cannon fodder for the U.S. and NATO.
Biden's decision to send Ukraine landmines banned by most countries reverses his own decision in 2022 to prohibit their use due to what he said was their "disproportionate impact on civilians, including children, long after fighting has stopped..."

Off the top of my head I worry this would play out as Google divesting, but contributing the majority of the codebase for Chrome (and/or Android depending on option chosen) to ensure the software still plugs into its advertising metrics farming system.
Bam. There is it. US Department of Justice has filed - requesting divestiture of Chrome as a remedy for court's finding against Google. Android at risk, too. /1

As promised, a thread on Mesopotamian time demons, cosmic horror, and the Book of Job.

(I’m working on a Mesopotamian rpg, working title "Wolf on the Fold," that’s a cross between Conan, Gilgamesh, and The Exorcist, set in Mesop. circa 670 BCE. This thread comes out of research for the game).

Show me a game that came out when you were 12!

I'm an unabashed GTA fanboy. IV was my fav but III started it all (never liked the top-down entries). I played a lot of Starcraft, Black & White, Diablo, and Unreal back then too.
