In this paragraph, we have a heartbreakingly bleak portrait of American society as it actually exists.

I spent a good amount of time in Sarajevo in the 2010s, the scars from the siege were still everywhere.

Sarajevo lays low in a valley surrounded by rolling hills. For four years these were filled with snipers shooting down at civilians, at children.

The people who did this are still alive.

And he was in Bahrain! A quasi-liberal outpost, an instagrammable magnet for foreigners. Like Dubai with (slightly) less lip filler.

Burr (and Sting) miss the conclusion we all drew some decades ago when the internet first meaningfully shrank the world for avg people - people are mostly the same worldwide, sure. But the naïveté it must take to miss that this is a propaganda move for a regime of regressive butchers is astounding

What gets me is, EP is straddled by Park Ridge and Niles, and if you cross into those neighborhoods the difference is night and day. Is it enforcement? The type of person who lives there? Probably a combination of both?

EP is very pretty - verdant, lush, quiet. It could be made a lot more livable.

I wish I had gone that route! My friend says their falafel is the safest bet. I got bad chicken they didn't trim. Shawarma is one thing I can confidently make so I'm extra picky about it, but also there shouldn't be inedibly hard bits of meat in a sandwich that costs ten dollars.
