Sometimes I just stop, shake my head, and think how ridiculous it is watching my country be destroyed by a demented old man just because some white people are afraid of the future.

I mean, you elected the same two parties that largely didn’t do anything the last five years. Not totally sure what you expected…? www.irishtimes.com/opinion/edit...

There has been little of the fresh thinking and renewed vigour that one might have hoped for from a new administration

People spend a lot of time wondering why the left is worse at using independent media to control the national narrative.

A useful exercise is to ask why the left is also worse at selling snake oil and pyramid schemes, because I think the reasons are basically exactly the same.

SO excited to see @roxanegay.bsky.social in Dublin next month…
When people here ask where I’m from I just wave my hand and mumble vaguely. The golfer sounds so stupid it’s an insult to stupidity. It’s unbearable.

The only appropriate response to this is impeachment and removal from office. Every moment the political press spends spinning out theories about 2026 and immigration polling is a minute they are not spending asking Republicans in Congress about their plans to enforce the rule of law

Also, feminism has shown the way! Subsidized childcare! Robust, paid parental leave. Tax credits! Reproductive freedom. Universal healthcare. Until they make the world better, there is little incentive to have kids (though they are adorable lil munchkins)

How do you write an entire article about “solutions” to increase births and not address the country’s abysmally cruddy social safety net…? www.nytimes.com/2025/04/21/u...

Baby bonuses and menstrual cycle classes are among the ideas pitched to Trump aides as they consider plans to try boosting the birthrate.

Pretty sure a masking policy was one of the demands these goons made of Harvard, too. C'mon.
This is terrifying in America. ICE agents are showing up masked—these abductions must stop. If you’re going to detain someone, show your face, present a warrant, and proper ID. Disappearing people from their families without evidence or accountability isn’t law enforcement—it’s state-sponsored fear.

I do enjoy watching random mid-low level managers run around in their fire marshall vests though.

Irish fire drills are way less stressful than US ones since the alarm sound is a lot less intense and less ~scary, but those drills still put me so on edge...

Totally agree with reader comments here AND ALSO how the heck can a Dallas paper claim they "didn't know" about a massive protest movement...?

The ROI for "one-off s*** to keep kids engaged in school" is basically infinite, this is all so dumb.
I just got confirmation that National History Day, a program that does more to ignite K-12 students' love of history, learning, and yes, even the United States than anything else I've ever seen, had all its funding cut yesterday by the DOGE-axe at the NEH - including for this year's ongoing contest.

63 studies: women who assert their ideas, make direct requests, and advocate for themselves are liked less.

They're also less likely to get hired—and it hasn't improved over time.

When will we stop punishing women for violating outdated gender stereotypes?
