Friendly reminder that retro gaming exists and you can play literally thousands of incredible games without paying a monthly subscription fee.

Thank you for your attention to this matter!

Can a book run Doom?
A while ago, I got excited about Ace of Aces, a two-player First World War dogfight in a pair of books, and the extremely cool math that makes it possible. I’ve been thinking about this game a lot.…

This past semester I developed a new course on Retro Game Development. The idea here was to explore video game history through development. Students built games for the Atari 2600 and the original Nintendo (NES).

Here are some of their NES projects. Super proud!

Just released a small review paper that compares the fidelity of different depth camera based volumetric video capture applications.

It is meant to give researchers, artists and creators who are new to this field an overview and starting point:

There's absolutely ZERO shame in considering gaming as your safe space.

So many of us had struggles in childhood and video games filled a void we needed. They can still be another safety net in our adulthood too.

Life's hard, so don't ever abandon what brings you happiness.

One of my favorite things to do at @gamehistoryorg.bsky.social is hand a collection off to a subject matter expert and simply ask, "what new information did you learn from this?"

Recently @jtsknight92.bsky.social went through our Sarge's Heroes design documentation and came up with this video!

Hey team! I've been workshopping a talk for a while now about video game preservation's obsession with "prototype" games, and how I think the community's obsession with them might be skewed. I put a lot of thought into this and I hope it inspires some discussion. www.youtube.com/watch?v=qelV...
