In shoots and under Fe deficiency (↓Fe), reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulate in chloroplasts, suppressing AtbZIP58 expression, reducing photosynthesis-related genes, and causing chlorosis. Fe deficiency also lowers ascorbic acid (AsA) levels by repressing VITAMIN C 4 (AtVTC4) expression. In combined Fe and P deficiency (↓Fe↓P), AtVTC4 is upregulated, boosting AsA production. AsA scavenges ROS in chloroplasts, restoring AtbZIP58 expression, photosynthesis-related gene activity, and chlorophyll accumulation, maintaining photosynthetic activity and a stay-green phenotype. In low P conditions, blue light activates ELONGATED HYPOCOTYL5 (HY5), inducing LOW PHOSPHATE ROOT 1 (LPR1)–PHOSPHATE DEFICIENCY RESPONSE 2 (PDR2) pathways that oxidize Fe2+ to Fe³+, promoting ROS production, callose deposition, and root growth inhibition.

A few years ago I made a slide showing the top 10 results if you search Google Image for "cartoon scientist".
In my slide, 10/10 are white men.
Someone asked if this is still true, so I tried again.
Here below you have 24 images.
20 are men, 4 are women (progress!).
23 are white, 1 is blue 🤔
A screenshot showing cartoon drawings of scientist. All are wearing white lab coats. most are men, any with white or crazy hair. Most wear glasses. Four out of 24 are clearly women, the rest appear to be men. 23 out of 24 look white, and one is sort of blue seems to be not entirely human.

Here are some “leaf” or phyllid cells from moss Physcomitrium patens gametophore. Cells are expressing a green fluorescence marker that labels the vacuolar membrane. Chloroplasts' autofluorescence is in magenta.
