This message. Yesterday, today, right through to the Autumn Budget.
We’ve been travelling across the UK with a very simple message ahead of the #SpringStatement:
Our country misses out on £460 million a week without a wealth tax. No cuts. Tax our wealth.
"Instead, they [MPs] should be able to represent the interests of their constituents by delivering on their core roles of parliamentary scrutiny, debate, policy making and legislating." - hell yes

Here's a smashing round-up of yesterday's mamouth petition hand-in
👩‍⚕️👨‍🚒🤵 Doctors, firefighters, even the super-rich themselves can see it… so why can’t Rachel Reeves?

It’s time to tax the super‑rich & invest in our collective future.

Yesterday, we delivered over 700,000 signatures demanding that the govt delivers #TaxJustice at the budget.

Final decision on restoring the Palace of Westminster will be delayed until 2030s

MPs were expected to vote by the end of 2025 on a way forward for fixing the crumbling parliament, but that now won't happen

Yay! A fresh round of baseless scaremongering.

Now, the noisy minority of greedy super-rich are telling us settling up charges will mean no one will invest or start business in the UK.

Just like they don't elsewhere with exit taxes like **checks notes**

Lloyd Hatton MP: “It really is very simple. We should be able to assess what tax is owed and then collect it. HMRC must get a firmer grip on the scale of wealth that is currently stashed away offshore... it’s clear we need to bolster its ability to spot and stop tax dodging.”

17 days to go
We want to make sure Rachel Reeves MP sees some important % and ££s:
🇬🇧 80% of UK millionaires support a 2% tax on wealth over £10m
🇬🇧 81% think it’s patriotic to pay their fair share
We’re proud to pay and here to stay

AND, the PRIVATISATION BY STEALTH not talked about enough:
Increasing failure to adopt roads, green spaces and drainage on new estates – leaving people paying double to private companies and through council tax for maintenance of the public realm.

It's really very hard to avoid feeling like I've failed my kids when I watch them holding the phone like a lump of coal / shotput / blowfish whenever there's an actual phone call.

🏠 A mansion tax? It's in the right postcode but its the wrong address. It wouldn't raise enough, it wouldn't rebalance wealth vs. work AND its messier and less targeted than a 2% wealth tax.

Caitlin Boswell, from our team, broke it down on BBC Politics Live this morning.

It's not a question of resources. It's a question of political will.
I rode the 1 train with Linsey Davis on the way to our ABC News interview yesterday, and talked about how in the wealthiest city in the world we can't simply accept that people have to sleep on the streets or the subways.

It's not a question of resources. It's a question of political will.
