Why is "saving taxpayer dollars" such a hot point? Pool our money to feed/house/trasport/educate/heal people, independent of their drug use or immigration status. We don't need to damn people out of basic life supports. And, those are domestic industries wanting ongoing investment.

Today is the Economic Blackout and I'm aware that it may seem like an empty gesture to many skeptics. But I boycott companies not because doing so will influence those business. I do it because I need to be at peace with myself and my choices. And while it's impossible to be perfect, I can be good.

I long for a future where painful policy lessons are in history class instead of the news.
My job is that of an educator in economics. It's a challenging field to teach in normal times. Now it will become even more so. It will also be all the more important to equip my students with the analytical tools to understand the harm we as a country will face for many years because of bad policy.
