Among other things, was reminded today that the year* following the 2010 earthquake Canada began hosting joint training exercises with US + British military simulating the invasion of Haiti. Port-au-Prince was still choked with rubble, promised aid undelivered, and they drilled occupation scenarios.

The US wasn’t “prompted” to invade Haiti and install a brutal military occupation so much as it actively planned for it, helping create conditions to make invasion seem necessary. The Farnham Plan (named for a VP of now-Citibank) to occupy Haiti was already in place when President Sam was lynched.
