"Many of the Haitians who settled in Springfield had good lives in Haiti before violence forced them to leave, Aimé said. They’d... worked hard and well at jobs locals wouldn’t take, and helped revitalize the local economy. 'They’re not gonna let people treat them anyhow.’” @bhatiap.bsky.social
Haitian migrants brought Springfield, Ohio back to life. Then came the Trump team with its xenophobic lies. In our new issue, @bhatiap.bsky.social demonstrates what happens to the city—and people—on the path of a culture war.

Nauseous over this.

The US wasn’t “prompted” to invade Haiti and install a brutal military occupation so much as it actively planned for it, helping create conditions to make invasion seem necessary. The Farnham Plan (named for a VP of now-Citibank) to occupy Haiti was already in place when President Sam was lynched.

“It would allow the RCMP and CSIS to make information demands from internet providers, banks, doctors, landlords and even therapists, without judicial oversight…. This is not about border security. It is about government overreach and Big Brother tactics, plain and simple.”
Advocacy groups warn federal bill could give law enforcement sweeping powers to access information

Six members (so far) arrested of a Portuguese neo-nazi militia, plus seized explosives, 3D-printed guns, Hitler texts, and plans to storm parliament. The apparent militia leader, a Lisbon police chief, shot and killed 18-yr-old Flávio Rentim (unarmed, running away) in 2012. He was never disciplined.
