“When Fortuna spins you downward, go out to a movie and get more out of life”
John Kennedy Toole, A Confederacy of Dunces
Was surprised by how much this worked. The film is a joy and the songs have never sounded better.
Seeing this tomorrow night

No idea if it’ll work but the idea of hearing some of New Adventures in Hi-Fi (one of my 3 fave REM albums) blasting out at the pics is enough to get me there in a second!

Loved seeing Hamnet again.
Especially the part where I had to tell the 2 women who spent the first 40 mins talking to pack it in

Last week I got to see Park Chan-Wook’s new film (the instant masterpiece that is No Other Choice).
Tonight I’m off to see his first film, JSA, which I’ve never seen.
And as a fan, I can’t wait!

Nouvelle Vague didn’t add up to much but I enjoyed it.
Certainly enjoyed it more than the film it’s built around, Breathless which I find hugely overrated.

I’d forgotten Frodo had to resort to such drastic measures

Had to go and see this again. Already wondering if I’ve seen the best film of the year.
The Odyssey has a lot to live up to.

It’s weird rereading Lord of the Rings again. I’d forgotten just how leisurely the start of the Fellowship is.
They actually wait months to leave the Shire once they realise it is the One Ring.
Months!!!

The new Sunday ritual. Coffee, Nero (in a lovely empty Nero I might add) cinnamon bun and book.

Dispiriting, deadly and unrevealing – there is a decent documentary to be made about the former model from Slovenia, but this one is unredeemable

God…this film.
Never has longing been done so understated, so cinematic, so spellbinding.
Maggie Cheung’s performance hits harder every time you watch it
Can’t wait to swoon over the 4K restoration of In The Mood For Love at the pics tonight. A beautiful masterpiece

I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

No Other Choice was sensational.
Going to take another watch to fully appreciate it.
The directions, editing, transitions often took my breath away
Always a big deal when the new film by one of your fave directors comes out and tonight it’s Park Chan-Wook’s latest.
After the The Handmaiden and Decision to Leave, No Other Choice has a lot to live up to

Titanic Sinks Tonight made me want to revisit Titanic.
It’s still a long haul and still unconvinced by the script and DiCaprio at his most twinksome.
Winslet keeps it going though.
Just wish Cameron had remade A Night to Remember because the chaos and the panic of the sinking is done so well.

I was going to read one of the Stephen Kings I got for Xmas after finishing Wuthering Heights but after seeing the 3 extendeds at the pics last week and listening to the soundtracks all week, I think I need to return to Middle Earth for the first time in 21 years.
