What's in the mirror is pretty ugly
Righto, we had 50 years of state sanctioned child abuse, we had a former Minster of Immigration under investigation for sexual abuse of children, we have the former Act party pres. convicted of sexual abuse, we had a collection of top police men covering for sex offenders, we had cops making false

Considering starting a salon-style event with education, lectures and discussion around the political economy, accompanied by experimental electronic music.

It will be called Techo Economics.

New term: "Idaho stop". Very good concept, and captures my internal monologue when I run red lights or stop signs - it's about safety, and clearing an intersection before my bike causes problems for cars.

TIL battery standardization has been enshittified like everything else we thought we could trust.

AA, AAA, C, D, 9V, all those are great and identical and trustworthy.

18650 rechargable? No way! They even come in different shapes that might not even fit the compartment. That's $50 down the drain!

I heard NZ Labour Economics Spokesperson Barbara Edmonds on the radio today, giving the excuse that they can't tax wealth too much because it would cause rich people to leave the country (and somehow take their factories with them???)

Massachusetts introduced a wealth tax in 2023

They raised $5.7B for public services

Despite the wealth tax, the number of millionaires increased by 40% 🤷

Not fleeing: New report shows more wealthy residents in Mass., 2 years into 'millionaire's tax'
Despite previous concerns, Massachusetts' "millionaire's tax" hasn't seemed to deter high-earners from continuing to live here, according to a new study from the Institute for Policy Studies.

For the first time in more than 100 years, Chinook salmon have been spotted at the confluence of the Sprague and Williamson rivers in Chiloquin, the government seat of the Klamath Tribes in Southern Oregon.

Salmon clear last Klamath dams, reaching Williamson and Sprague rivers
Just a year after four dams were removed, a group of fall Chinook have migrated nearly 300 miles into the Upper Klamath Basin.

🧠 Alzheimer’s reversed in mice

A new study found that injecting nanoparticles can 'remind' the blood–brain barrier to function properly again, restoring normal brain activity in mice. Human trials could follow within years.

Oh jeepers here I was thinking this was a post about Aotearoa New Zealand
It truly is the government of landlords and used car dealers because anyone familiar with either of these occupations knows that they are the last bastions of men who, for no reason but their own sloven incompetence, seek out imagined excuse to violate basic contract law and routine regulations.
Not to discount the enormous damage they have done, and still can do, but this really might be one of the dumbest governments in the history of the world.
