My little pickup has rear wheel drive and is essentially a sled in winter. Extra weight in the bed is essential.
Buy the cheap 50lb bags of non-clumping litter and put them in your car over your rear axle wherever that happens to be. Do at least 100lbs. Your rear axle just doesn't have much weight on it compared to your front axle which contributes to fishtailing etc.
Hey southerners, put a bunch of containers of kitty litter in your car right now. Put it under your front wheels if you get stuck and it will often give you enough traction to get out.
