I'm confused by the reaction to the latest Pokemon game. I thought the general trend was to desire games that are created with longer dev cycles with less crunch time, and yet people froth at the mouth that the newer Pokemon games aren't AAA quality hyper-detailed open worlds like Rockstar games.

Watched Network (1976) and seeing it from a modern standpoint with the film's stance of TV as incredibly corrosive to society at first seems quaint.

Then it becomes obvious that TV was a dry run for the internet and social media to become its apotheosis, overseen by Ned Beattys as every tech CEO.

I think my favorite part about rewatching Stargate SG-1 is the knowledge that it happens in a shared universe with Twin Peaks.

So far Death Stranding 2: Revenge of the Funky Fetus is everything I wanted in a sequel. Serene and quiet contemplation punctuated by solid action and bugnuts wackiness. Kojima is the best auteur working in games, and god bless his weird little cultural vampire heart.

Just had my AC go out, the repairman I called not fix it (after charging me $750 for parts and labor that apparently were insufficient), and then discover I couldn't open my back door for ventilation right back to back.

All of which resulted in cancelling b-day plans with family. Quite the combo.

Getting very excited about the next Rise of the Golden Idol DLC since it apparently involves Peggy Hill.

Apropos of absolutely nothing, I was thinking today about why I didn’t like the film Man of Steel. I agree with a lot of the criticisms of Superman’s characterization, stuff like him allowing wanton destruction, his terrible relationship with his father, the ham-fisted christ imagery, etc. (cont)

I feel that The Expanse was a successful iteration on the style and concept of Firefly.

A bit less of the specific cowboys-in-space aesthetic, and with a more realized space patois than just some cribbed Chinese phrases.

Also with less problematic creators and women characters.

Normally I really wouldn't have an opinion about the Super Bowl but man oh man are a lot of the folks who have it in for the Chiefs really piling on the sexism and homophobia.

I mean, Chiefs fans are super racist with the tomahawk chop and all but geez it's just ugly all around.

I have always said if you ever want proof that anarchy doesn’t work (in the US at least), just watch people trying to park in an unplowed parking lot.

Amazon just cancelled my preorder for Metroid Prime 4 that I placed nigh unto 7 years ago for a game that is still in development.

Is nothing sacred? If I can’t lock in an unrealistic price for a game that (at the time) only had a logo, then how can I have faith in our institutions?

Reading Four Ways to Forgiveness by Ursula K. Le Guin and boy howdy is it a stark reminder that even though we live in trying times, they are not unprecedented.

Small men grasping for power by harming those they consider inferior while cultivating ignorance and cruelty in others is nothing new.

Feeling a little sad about the end of Lower Decks.

I really enjoyed that it was a show that had a deep knowledge of, and reverence for Star Trek and could celebrate it while poking fun.

I wish it could have continued and was a breath of fresh air the franchise desperately needed. Cerritos strong.

It's a facile observation, but it's interesting that everyone thinks Trump is lying.

Those who support him think he's lying about harming people.

Those that don't support him think he's lying about helping people.

The Wild Robot proves that having animals with realistic animations but more stylized designs results in more believable and engaging characters.

The trailer for Photorealistic Lion King 2 that I saw before the film really drove that point home.

Just saw the Transformers one movie and they did the impossible:

They made a Transformers movie where 80%+ of the runtime isn't taken up by human actors running around going "whaaaa a bunch of big robots???"

I once went to a grocery store and they paid me $6 to take a frozen turkey and two packs of batteries.
