The Environment Agency installing flood barriers in #Ironbridge #Shropshire today. Interesting listening to local opinion, which is certainly divided. A waste of time? PR exercise? Vital? #flooding #riversevern @theriverstrust.bsky.social

#RowvemberChester Day 3

50 Eastgate Street: Grade II listed but rebuilt in 1963! The Georgian-style facade is a 1960s copy of the 18th century townhouse that once stood here.

Listed for being a really good fake - architectural preservation through recreation! 🏛️

#RowvemberChester Building of the Day 1

38-42 Watergate Street: 14th century, Grade II

Originally a soaring open hall, it was split in the 1400s with a huge chimney & new floor. Look for 3 arches of the buttery passage (servants' area) - visible through the window at no.38 ☕

Swallows can recognise and remember the humans living near their nests, according to a new study which may shed light on how the birds balance caution with energy conservation during breeding:
Nesting Swallows recognise human faces
A study in China reveals that Swallows recognise and remember familiar humans near their nests, flying away less readily than when approached by strangers. The findings, published in Animal Cognition, suggest this ability conserves energy, aids reproduction and may reflect a broader avian capacity to identify individual people.
