If you’re late dx #actuallyautistic , what was helpful for you when you were learning about your dx? I’d like to support my son and husband and there is scant info about how to do so.

I promise you, you’re not angry enough.

The rage I feel right now as a father of an autistic child is one that could burn down Washington.

How unimaginably cruel, reckless, and inhumane. The women later lost consciousness and was rushed to the hospital.

This must end. Jail these people.

Some autistic women suggest their anti-social behaviors are misunderstood & underneath it all they really like people.
I want to be clear that my anti-social behaviors are because I don’t like (most) people.
To be fair, some of that is being stuck in MAGA-ville. I was more outgoing in Maine.

I have had to remove a few FB comments from people who demanded to know why Aliya Rahman, the autistic woman who was pulled from her car by ICE in Minneapolis, didn’t “just follow instructions.” These comments, unfortunately, reveal lack of understanding about being autistic. Here is why. 1/

I have been thinking about this a lot in the context of Autistic people at protests & risks involved with being arrested

Autistic people &/or people w/ Autistic traits are SO often misunderstood, taken out of context & masking to people please that it leaves us at serious risk in an interrogation
One way Autistic people can be misunderstood is when we’re trying to be very thoughtful w/ our words under stress

Some of us stumble

Some of us go blank

Some of us have scripts locked & ready to go

we don’t want to be misunderstood

They can misinterpret our thoughtfulness with intent to deceive

It's so hard for me as an autistic person - I just blurt out the honest truth, so innocently, before I realize it's not an honest process they are using.
The autistic urge to be honest in self-evaluations needs to fucking die.

Hey peeps, this audio book by Nick Walker is worth hearing, and it's 50% off. I have it on Kindle.

I'm not trying to sell it, I don't know her, but I think it's important to read and an essential part of the ongoing autistic and neurodivergent discussion.

One of the key ingredients to being autistic is no key ingredient to being autistic. Time and time and time again I see someone saying you need to be like this or you need to be like that.

Guess what, it's a load of rubbish.

Stereotypes can limit others and this sort of behaviour needs to stop.

This is the 2nd autistiphobic (meaning bigoted/hateful towards autistics as a group) comment I've found in the last hour promoting false memes and negative stereotypes against autistics. So, this person thinks autistics can't be "clever" or "street smart" simply because they're autistic.

Stop pushing these misinformed stigmas upon autistics.

Autism isn't isn't the reason Musk is a hate-spewing horror.

It's not because Musk is #autistic that he's using Twitter to serve his fascist, far-right purposes. It has nothing to do with autism.

Many (possibly most?) of us are on the left.
It’s official

X is a breeding ground for alt right incels to spread racist hate rhetoric while the algo forces real info into the depths of hell.

Glad we let the most socially awkward autistic person in the world have a trillion dollars and run a major social platform.

So relatable. This something I'd definitely do. I mean, my entire life is on various spreadsheets to keep track of things. My weight, how I respond to food, all kinds of things.
in my attempt to get myself to read more books I've decided to make use of the most autistic method of going about keeping myself consistent that I could think of: a Spreadsheet

What the World Got Wrong About Autistic People
For decades, autism research compared autistic people to animals, denied them moral sensitivity, and assumed autistic traits made them miserable. All wrong.

I just threw a peanut down to the ground below my balcony for the scrub jay (they look like a blue jay, and they're really smart) that is in the tree. The jay immediately flew down, seized the peanut, and flew off.

Small things like this make my day.

I hope I don't offend anyone, and won't go into a long explanation as to why, but I really can't support the whole autism=robotic persona comparison. It feeds all the negative stereotypes. In fact I find it offensive, but I'm just one person. I realize everyone is gonna have their own experience.
