Our statement on the government’s abhorrent plans for people seeking safety.

Politicians are dividing communities, when they could be building affordable homes and strengthening them.

Well done @teamlabouruk.bsky.social. Your policies are now extreme enough to be endorsed by the hard right. Proud day.

Hell's teeth, this is bleak. A fascist rally in our capital and all the government can say is, 'Hooray for freedom of speech'. This isn't even Farage's lot, this is Tommy Robinson, Britain's highest profile racist and xenophobe. Can we not just call this what it is and agree that fascism is bad?

NEW FICTION: A Meeting in the Library

I wrote this piece in response to a prompt for a story about a mysterious meeting. I don't often try to write humour (it's really hard!) but I'm quite pleased with how this turned out.

What do you think?

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about patriotism. This is partly because of the flags-on-lampposts saga and partly because I’ve been reading @carolinelucas.bsky.social excellent ‘Another England’. This thread is a response to both of those things. 1/

Welp, I did it: 12 short stories in 12 months with Deadlines for Writers. The monthly prompts have been really useful and the community is super encouraging. The next step for me is to find folks who can give me slightly more direct feedback. Who wants to tell me 3 things that suck about my writing?

NEW STORY

'Xylo Syndrome' is live and ready for your perusal now. Come and get it while it's hot.

Content warning: This one is a little sweary. I felt like it needed to be, to be true to the characters. I hope you'll see what I mean.

I finally did it. I've finally plucked up the courage to put some of my writing out into the world. If you fancy buying me a coffee for my trouble, that'd be lovely but I'm not expecting it. I hope you like what you read. Feedback very welcome!

I'm aiming to run 200 miles during March. Could you help me raise £1 a mile?

Something people in UK need to wake up to is how racism affects whether or not you get a job, whether you will be promoted and how long you will stay promoted.
Fraser Nelson blocked me on Twitter because he wrote an article about how the UK is the best place to be Black so I sent him a picture of the all white Spectator staff in LONDON and asked if this was you he said “I hire on ability” LOOOOOL

EVERYONE in the United States, citizen or not, has rights. I will not allow this administration to intimidate us from helping you know about them.

When JD Vance can go to Dachau and immediately follow it by all but endorsing the far-right, Holocaust revisionist AfD, and Marco Rubio can go to Yad Vashem and immediately follow it by defending Vance's support for the AfD, we need to ask big questions about what Holocaust remembrance is even for.

So Reform UK MP Rupert Lowe has finally spelled out the quiet part in neon letters for those who hadn’t got it yet.

This political moment isn’t about limiting protection to “genuine” refugees. It is about slamming the UK shut to people fleeing danger.

There’s no pretending you didn’t know.

NEW: A moment in Munich.

Zelenskyy says Russia is creating 15 new divisions of 150,000 soldiers: "Maybe these soldiers are for Ukraine. Maybe they are for you.”

He ends hoping for peace.

A long, standing ovation.

What a contrast to Vance, met with silence as he torched transatlantic relations.

This is what should be on every front page right now. What's happening in the US right now is an illegal power grab by a private citizen. IT'S A COUP.

It's a digital coup. It's Musk who's leading it. The consequences are terrifying. And it's coming for us next.

Yes. This. This is exactly why I've jumped ship and joined @greenparty.org.uk. What's the point of a Labour government if all they give us is recycled Conservative policies?
In The Observer, @robfordmancs.bsky.social makes an important point that is not heard often enough in the current political debate.

Men are strong and need to be in charge but when accountability and standards show up they’re just little babies who need to be protected.
