Late to the party early to bed. PhD climate change, global equity and finance, also obsessed with sustainable clothing, books (all) and psychology (critical and consciousness). ADHD haver, basically a magpie. Opinions my own because no one else wants them

Ok so I REALLY want to follow serious climate and political commentators but I ALSO really need to have at least half my feed be amusing nonsense and hot takes -how do I achieve this critical balance?
Pleased to have a Yorkshireman getting t'top. Congrats @mothinali.bsky.social

Ruba's phone has broken, making it so much more difficult for her to promote her fundraiser, keep in touch with me and her family, or do her studies. She desperately needs money urgently so she can get a new one as it is truly a lifeline. If you can donate please do x

It's going to be an ongoing propaganda victory for Australia that these articles keep getting pumped out with zero context or even a slight mention of the fact that Australia disproportionately contributes to why they're being forced to relocate

Like Israel's 'humanitarian aid drops'....
The first planned migration of an entire country due to climate change is happening! Tuvalu, a Pacific island nation, is at risk of being submerged under rising sea level, so it has signed an agreement with Australia to allow 280 Tuvaluans to settle in Australia as permanent residents each year.
The First Planned Migration of an Entire Country Is Underway
The Pacific island nation of Tuvalu could be submerged in 25 years due to rising sea levels, so a plan is being implemented to relocate its population to Australia.

Good to see people turning scrutiny back on the part the media have played in providing cover for what is happening in Gaza.
If there's one thing you watch today, make it this

Bob Geldof criticises Israel for what they're doing in Gaza

Then criticises Trevor Philips for making excuses for what Israel is doing in Gaza

This law was never going to survive contact with any determined resistance. So impressed with the brave people protesting in this manner.

Annoying people on the internet: How dare you infer what I definitely meant to imply because technically, TECHNICALLY, I didn't actually say it.

It’s funny how climate policy researchers all think their own thing is the most important thing instead of recognizing that it’s my thing

Driving a sofa to Birmingham this evening (don't ask) and it's interesting how motorway service stations fail to partake of the glamour that other travel hubs have; railway stations, airports etc. Just unremittingly grim.

I don't use Spotify but to prove I don't think I'm morally superior because of it, I will be publishing a list of the top recyclable objects I threw in the trash this year because it was more convenient.

Just started watching Cross on Amazon because I love Aldis Hodge but does his wife receive, like, the quickest fridging of all time? It's faster than Hughie's girlfriend in The Boys which has so far been the winner of the 'we really didn't want to pay this actress much' awards.

its really annoying me that my old kindle had 3g so I could download a book whenever/where ever I wanted but my new one does not so I have to wait until I have wifi like an animal.

As a child & adolescent psychiatrist, I regularly see youth with climate anxiety. #ClimateAnxiety is an adaptive response reflecting our connection to reality. Anxiety, in general, predisposes us to actions enabling effective responses to threats. Channel your climate anxiety into #ClimateAction.
“What if part of our inability to deal with the underpinnings of the climate crisis has to do with our refusal to acknowledge the emotions of what we are feeling? In our society, we must pretend that all is well, don’t look at that scary stuff over there, let’s go for brunch. Don’t look up.”
The growing toll of climate anxiety
Guilt, sadness, fear, worry over bringing children into the world. Eco-anxiety is growing. Here’s what doctors and medical educators can—and must—do to help.

If someone in your life suggests getting Morrison's Apple and Blackberry Crumble Cake on the basis that it is like getting 'two puddings in one' you should know it is an abomination and they are a fool.

I'm sorry, but as a Muslim, there are certain things about Christmas that I find unacceptable. And yes, they're right; I want them banned.

Sprouts can fuck off for a start. And the Mrs Brown’s Boys Christmas Special. Followed swiftly by the King’s message. Not to mention the yellow Quality Street.

Love that we asked for diversity in british media and the crumbs we got were diversifying the pool of privately educated transphobes willing to say they’d rather their parents didn’t come to the UK. Tragic

I do not wish anyone to experience my feelings last night, when I woke up at 1am to the sounds of shells. All I could think of was that I would rather die than be displaced for the sixth time.

I'd rather you eat a steak everyday and be actually doing something about climate change - campaigning, communicating, organising - than spending all your energy on pursuing personal climate purity. (I mean, don't eat a steak every day - that stuff will clog your arteries, but you know what I mean)

OF COURSE the world's worst insect is going to be the one to benefit from climate change. OF COURSE.
Even if they weren't so deadly, climate change increasing the habitable area for mosquitoes is terrible because they are extremely annoying.

So I've started cooking more with water after watching the 'cooking more with water' lady on insta and I hate to say it but it really doesn't make a difference if you saute onions etc in water for a soup/stew, like I can't tell the difference AT ALL.
