@wyden.senate.gov On behalf of my fellow OR CASA advocates: Why is CASA having federal grants terminated, and how exactly is a program that advocates for abused and neglected children not, ya know, "protecting American children"? Make it make sense please.

National CASA/GAL federal funding terminated
Without these funds, the work of CASA/GAL programs across the country will be impacted along with more than 200,000 children...

Finished S2 of #RingsofPower over the weekend and I have to say I'm def. a firm fan of the show now. S2 was much stronger & mostly avoided the moments of weird/wobbly characterisation and plotting that marred S1. It was a pretty compelling "What If" alt universe version of the story. #Tolkien

Received a letter from POTUS today purporting to remove me as Commissioner and Chair of the FEC. There's a legal way to replace FEC commissioners-this isn't it. I've been so fortunate to serve the American people and stir up some good trouble along the way. That's not changing anytime soon.

It is at once frustratingly naive but also deeply affecting and endearing to see so many Americans distressed about and focusing on USAID being shut down, when that is just one element of their entire country being stolen from them.

I can't remember a bigger "WTF??" moment in international politics than just now reading Trump's comment that the US will take over and ethnicly cleanse Gaza so he can build Atlantic City in the Holy Land. It's so on brand and yet so surreal.

Here's a realistic plan. Until Musk is banned by the federal government:

1. Talking filibuster (the real kind)
2. Block every nominee for everything
3. No budget talks at all
4. Stunt pressers daily

Better than staff tweets. I like Chuck but this is a national emergency. Lie across the tracks.
By shutting down USAID, DOGE is doing the work of Russia and China at the expense of the United States.

It’s dangerous.

It’s against America’s interests.

Congress must take action to restore the rule of law.

People really out here acting like a genocide announces itself like
“Hello my honey hello my darling, I’m a Holocaust”

They don’t walk up to you and introduce themselves as “I am a genocide.”

You have to recognize the pattern and name it yourself. This is what Raphael Lemkin wanted us to do.

#DidYouKnow that Rumble and Frenzy once shot a movie? Unfortunately, "Dark Invasion" was a massive commercial and critical flop, and permanently soured Earth moviegoers on any future Cybertronian films!

Democrats still acting like Trump and Musk care about the constitution. FMD. Wake the f*ck up.
Raskin: "Elon Musk, you may have illegally seized power over the financial payments systems of the Treasury, but you don't control the money of the American people. The US Congress does that under Article 1 of the Constitution ... we don't have a fourth branch of government called 'Elon Musk'"

I suspect in many cases it was also because people couldn’t yet face the reality of what they were dealing with. And they didn’t want to be the outlier who jarred everyone’s world view (speaking as someone who ended up playing that role in quite a few interviews in spring 2020).

Current events in the US bring back echoes of early COVID, when there was reluctance to call it a ‘pandemic’ or say the world was already in a really bad place. I suspect this reluctance was partly because people didn’t want to encourage fatalism, as if events were inevitable. But…

If you’ve been wondering what Elon Musk and his lackeys are up to since taking control of the US government, look no further. Our latest story names six 19- to 24-year-olds working with his DOGE organization, which now has access to sensitive federal systems. wrd.cm/4jzpiSN

Our very minimal obligation as researchers is to stick to the evidence and insist on the truth.

If a government says that "there are no trans kids" or "there's no prejudice against trans ppl", it's up to us to answer "No. You're either wrong or lying, and you're hurting ppl in the process".
Science is political. It wouldn't necessarily have to be partisan.

But when one party is opposed to science-based policy, scientists have a choice between saying "you're right, thoughts and prayers are probably as effective as reducing carbon emissions" or saying "fuck that."

In the responses I see that people can't give up the belief that there must be a pattern or plan. What if these tariffs are just the result of a whim? A passing fancy?
Hope people soon understand that there is no "reason' for these tariffs.
