I just seen the John Lewis ad. I’m now off to the closest JL store one to get some vinyl LPs. Does anyone know which department they’re in?

Australia has so much electricity from solar power that it is going to start offering free electricity to everyone for at least three hours during the day as the wholesale price of power goes negative

Australia has so much solar that it's offering everyone free electricity
Australia's extensive solar power penetration makes so much energy that the government wants to offer free electricity at peak hours.

UK #EV news. Pure EV car sales equal Petrol car sales in October. Both at 26%. Hybrids dominate the market, and as we've seen in Norway, this is a normal occurrence during a transition. Sales of hybrids will decline as battery electric vehicle sales increase.

This is according to #newautomotive.

I have unofficially been a Service Designer for most of my career. I also effectively have a degree in it (Interactive System Design). Next Monday, we will have the title officially for the first time. But what is a Service Designer? I think I know, but there is a lot of confusion out there!

A record 29% — nearly a third! — of all new cars purchased in California during July, August, and September were zero-emission vehicles.

DC may be fine with selling out American innovation to China, but California will keep charging ahead toward cleaner air for our communities.

The NIN soundtrack to the new Tron movie is interesting. In places it sounds rushed, like they were under pressure to get something done. In others it evokes Radiohead/J.Greenwood. The duet (track 12) is a standout but feels like it needed something more.

I thought it might get a lot of attention and it has.

From 2019 “Since mid-October, Charlie Kirk’s Culture War college tour has been increasingly haunted by the Groyper and nicker Groyper Q&A trolls. These offline trolls use the Q&A-sessions that are part of the Culture War show format to frame Charlie Kirk as a fake, 'anti-white' conservative.”

This chart is wild. Near vertical direction on solar capacity globally, led by China.

And as Ember notes in a new report today, that trend is accelerating with nearly 400GW new capacity in first 6 months of 2025.

I'm a Humanist who spends time with Unitarians! #Thatshumanism is a great introduction to the humanist approach to life, featuring four animations narrated by Stephen Fry, and new posters all about humanism for schools. Have a look here. humanists.uk/thatshumanism/
That's humanism!
We've teamed up with our patron Stephen Fry, to explore humanist ideas about some of life’s big questions in four animated shorts.

Using Windows after using a Mac for over five years to do Design work is like driving a car where all the controls are moved around, so you keep turning on the windscreen wipers instead of the indicators.

Why don't all OSs just unify their common elements/keyboard layout or provide a switch option?

I recently spent three weeks in New Hampshire, the US, which involved a lot of driving. I'm a big fan of Electric Cars (#EVs) and managed to cross off a few cars you don't see in the UK, including F150 lighting, Rivians and Lucids. I drove a Kona. Oh, and a few cybertrucks. Less EV density than UK.

Light field tech is the next big thing for real VR and AR. Currently no available VR glasses allow for the eyes to focus on objects, which means instead of 3D we get a stereoscopic 2.5D illusion. Add in the ability to focus and AR become practical and VR becomes how the eyes natural work! Check this

All VR headsets are currently 2.5D; stereoscopic images are used, but eye focusing is not employed. A solution for both VR and MR (mixed reality) is waveguide holography, but it's very hard to get working. A new approach using AI is being tried. #VR #AI. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

At some point, we will create a better name for AI than 'AI.' Anyone want to have a go at suggesting a better term? I'm talking about no sentient AI based upon pattern matching (LLMs etc). We'll eventually get to sentient AI, but before then, what do we call unalive/Chinese room style AI?

As I work with a charity, I sometimes have to use the Charities Aid Foundation Bank interface. I used to be slow, difficult, and quite dated. They've refreshed it and now it's slower, a bit more difficult, but up to date. So lots of UX bugs, including slow response times and hidden information. Sigh
