As someone who likes to tinker, I often find myself sourcing things from Chinese vendors. Where Chinese goods are considered "cheap" or "low quality" I expect that perception will change very soon.

With Americas abdication of R&D and democratic values there won't be much reason to "buy american"

Former chair of the Peterborough Environmental Advisory Committee.

It's been an honor to represent my neighbors, friends, colleagues, creeks, trees and flowers of beautiful Nogojiwanong. Thank you for allowing me to serve you.

Sorry @avilewis.ca. I signed up to the NDP to vote for you.

Fingers crossed, but as far as I can tell, my vote is the kiss of death for any politician.

Big fan of this very hopeful speech. I know Cory is all over the internet, but this is worth a watch.

My concern after listening is that we've created systems of bureaucracy that have rewarded leaders who stand for nothing and work tirelessly to maintain the status quo.

How do we change that?

If I ever run for council, I promise you all I will be proudly anti-police.
Betts made the accusations in a letter sent to all of council, the city clerk, CAO and police board chair. “Questioning of a police budget is not anti-police, reckless, or dishonourable,” Riel responded. “Suggesting otherwise is an attempt to intimidate elected officials from doing their jobs."
Peterborough police chief accuses councillor of ‘anti-police bias’ in letter
In a Jan. 9 letter, Chief Stu Betts says statements by Coun. Keith Riel during budget talks last year discredit the work of the police board.

This really resonated with me. For someone with a few quirks and had a hard time fitting in, the internet really was quite a pleasant place to meet and engage.

These days, it feels like I'm exploring a ghost town. Constantly trying to figure out where all the people went.

Please consider providing public comment on this wrecking ball piece of legislation that is being proposed.

It will absolutely destroy the capacity of Conservation Authorities to effectively administer their respective watersheds across the province.

I suppose it was only a matter of time before CAs were a target of amalgamation. Here in action we see the neoliberal imperative that effective governance structures must be diluted or destroyed.

If AI companies can claim to have unlimited access to copywritten works to redistribute the contents, I see no reason why the same logic shouldn't apply to libraries.

Dude has his whole career to criticize Jane Goodall but decides to farm left wing rage bait a week after her death....
With Jane Goodall's death last week and the Nobel Prize announcements this week, I wrote about why it's a big problem that we lionise individuals for achievements that resulted from the work of collective groups of people.
We spend too much time lionising people like Jane Goodall
Idolising people only entrenches the idea that it is spectacular individuals, not collectives, who change the world.

In 2004 MSN Messenger took up 1/4 of your screen TOPS, and this was with a shitty CRT monitor probably with 720p resolution.

Fast forward to 2025 and we cant get a decent messaging app that doesn't occupy 100% of your 4k monitor without looking like shit.
