Just learned about the passing of one of my all-time favorite message boarders, the great Moon Man. He apparently passed over the last few months.

Smart, quick the barb, kind of heart, and one of the funniest motherfuckers around. A true treasure, gone way too soon.

RIP, good sir.

Less time than it takes for two hot pockets! (Lean pockets too!)
"To write a college term paper, an A.I. might produce about five thousand tokens, consuming enough electricity to run a microwave oven at full power for about three minutes."
One report estimates that, in areas near data centers, wholesale electricity costs have risen by more than 200 per cent in the past five years. Rates will probably continue to increase to meet demand.

On Tuesday, Oct. 28th, I will be interviewing him on this subject at a Substack Live Video. Join in at 1PM MT / 3PM ET that day!

For all those #APSA people on planes...Does someone have a scatter plot that shows the economy (e.g., GDP or change in real disposable income) and presidential vote share that includes the 2024 election? [Needed for a teaching slide]

First day of class, finicky clicker.

Targus Clickers seem to have about a 5-year life span (I think I lost the first one). Originally recommended by @carnes.bsky.social in Grad School. New one arrives tomorrow.

📉Only 36% think the state should pay even 25%

There are two weeks left in the UFL. Battlehawks now host the conference and league championships. They get conference because of stadium availability. They got league because of our attendance.

So last two weeks of the league are pretty meaningless.
