Congratulations to @isovaleral.bsky.social for her recent publication in @chemcomm.rsc.org of a new tryptophan-derived lipid-sensitive fluorophore. In collaboration with the @stevenmagennis.bsky.social group, we also show this is amenable to two-photon excitation: pubs.rsc.org/en/content/a...
Environment-sensitive fluorescent tryptophan analogues via indole C-2 alkenylation reactions
A modular synthetic strategy for the preparation of intrinsically fluorescent unnatural α-amino acids by C-2 oxidation and alkenylation of a tryptophan-derived tetrahydro-β-carboline is described. Thi...

Very pleased to see the Royal Society of Chemistry stand by its principles. I was part of the Inclusion and Diversity Committee that produced these resources, and know it is something the RSC takes really seriously.
We want everyone in the chemical sciences community to feel welcome, supported and valued, so we're sad to see some people seize on yesterday's supreme court ruling with anti-trans messages. Today, we're highlighting our resources on allyship for trans colleagues and friends

In further University of Greater Manchester news:

We’ve been hearing that a campus lift has been out of order since the beginning of this year.

Last week, an unknown satirist placed a plaque next to the broken lift, saying it was actually an art installation called 'Ascenseur'.
