How to manage studio finances when crisis is the new norm ? I've spent 20y in a major investment bank during subprimes, here's what I learned and what I think also applies to game industry 🧵
I love Camille‘s corpus of work, energy, and excellent taste in indie games. She’s topping my list of people I’d love to work with 😍
If you or anyone you know is looking for a tradigital 2d animator, I’d appreciate the chance. Looking for new mid-to-longer term projects mainly. Previews of some of my work here: camillecee.weebly.com

Reposts appreciated, with love, increasingly urgent anxiety and thanks!

I've been running an indie games studio for 15 years now, and it felt like a good time to boil down what I've learned into 4 pieces of advice:

I hope it's of use, not least because goddamn I forgot how long blog posts take to write.

Jesper Myrfors, Magic the Gathering first Art Director, about women in fantasy (as subjects of a drawing and as artists).

It feels as needed in 2025 as it was back then, though one can certainly appreciate his vision when MtG was just an oddity in board game shops.

Happy new year! 明けましておめでとうございます。

To kick off 2026, I decided to create a profile on Bluesky. As a 3D artist passionate about urban environments, I enjoy sharing photos of Tokyo and randomly talking about video games I enjoy. So follow me if that sounds interesting to you I guess.

This is making rounds on reddit. I know a few indiedevs who balk at the price of a french junior concept artist, and are « proud to pay 1/10 the price with fiverr ». Well it seems paying $15 for a 2D fully-rendered concept and base mesh will only get you a prompt artist WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT

COPILOT: Hello Stéphane. I hope you're doing great 😜 Do you want me to draw art, craft stories, give you parenting advices, imitate the voice of your dead loved ones or just suck the joy out of everything that makes you human ?

ME: Fuck off, just format this word document.

COPILOT: Sorry can't do.

What it feels like working in Paris. Went to see Sargent exhibition with our artists and my son. Grabbed Churros at Tuileries and ended up picking a couple of Christmas presents. This city is such an open-sky museum 🎨

Why does Valve allow this?

I’ve been thinking about this interaction more than I should lol. Right now all CEOs who are thinking about replacing receptionists by AI have no idea how it helped me kickstart a difficult week and gave me a sense of belonging. It made me feel welcome and seen.
✅ Bucket-list #68 : being on a first-name basis with the receptionist at Arte headquarters.

We did something different with the credits for Demonschool. We used this format: name, title, lengthy description of what they did. Often you see credits in games where you don't know what the credited developer was actually responsible for. We wanted to give people proper, actual credit.

Dread Delusion is an incredibly tight and dense open-world with splendid writing, haunting soundtrack and an otherworldly setting that made me feel like a teenager discovering Morrowind for the first time. It succeeds where most AAA fail, distilling fantasy/escapism to its unadulterated essence.

People dislike synthetic content but it will likely be harder and harder to tell, leading to misleading purchases. Like social slop, at one point you start feeling icky and it becomes easier to just switch to a more « trustful » platform. I’m pretty sure my kids have this generational agility.

40k tracks per day on Deezer (more than a third) are IA generated. Volume tripled in less than a year. On Steam Nextfest, 507 out of 2900 games were disclosing AI, a likely under-reported floor. Current platforms don’t care about content production process as long as people consume and MAU go up.
