"Religion bad, me smart" became a way to avoid ever thinking about history, geography, politics, or anything else.
One of the worst legacies of 2000s New Atheism was the idea that conflicts like the Troubles or Israel-Palestine were thousand-year religious wars that could end if the participants stopped being so superstitious, rather than political conflicts with start dates, causes and goals on both sides.
