60% of American households can’t afford a minimal quality of life.

Meanwhile, the 19 richest households saw their wealth increase by $1 trillion in 2024 — the biggest one-year increase ever.

Our problem isn't a lack of resources.

Our problem is ever-expanding inequality.

I might have to adapt this curriculum for a teen homeschool class next year!
I'm not teaching my grad course 'Civil Resistance: How It Works' this semester. But here is an abridged version of the course schedule, readings, and films I used the last time I taught it (in 2022). Just in case it's useful. drive.google.com/file/d/14RRJ...

This moment in Bluesky is a great example of how joy itself can be defiance and resistance.

We are just hanging out, shitposting, being silly, happy, and normal. It is being treated as if it is transgressive, opting out of the endless negativity. Because in a way, it is.

Joy is my favorite weapon.

NEW: Porsha Ngumezi is the fifth case we've reported on in which a woman died after not receiving a D&C or its second-trimester equivalent in time, or at all.

Her case raises questions about how abortion bans are pressuring doctors to avoid standard care even in straightforward miscarriages.

My 9y son's seizures are primarily nocturnal myoclonic and clonic. I believe they usually lead into focal aware seizures before subsiding. <-- That type hasn't been caught on EEG yet.

Needless to say, he's exhausted much of the time but often afraid to go to sleep. 💔💜

#kc friends, remember the "officer involved shooting during a domestic violence call in Independence" a couple of weeks ago?

Have you also been wondering why that story faded from the headlines, and why we haven't heard another peep about it??

When you look at the rhetoric and actions surrounding elections and government from 1892-1965 in the former Confederate States, you start to see some chilling parallels.
One thing I think people talking about the threat of authoritarian creep have gotten, if not exactly wrong, not quite right either is to frame discussion in terms of various European precedents.

Those are relevant to be sure, but we also have an American precedent - namely the South before 1965.
