1. Today the NIH director issued a new directive slashing overhead rates to 15%.

All of this 👇👇, plus: The people who run these institutions make choices every day. These choices are not set. They CAN be influenced. This is why we keep at it. Work every lever. And talk about it, everywhere. Especially with people with different world views.
What folks are getting a tough lesson in right now: Institutions are people. They are not abstract forces that exist as firewalls or safeguards. They are just people who play a role and who perhaps have abided by norms, but whose decisions minute to minute shape the role those institutions play.

When the Patriot Act was passed, libraries got requests for patrons’ borrowing history. We were prohibited from disclosing those requests.

We deleted and shredded those records and stopped tracking reading history for that reason.

I feel like we're going to see a lot of stories like this.
A man accused of assaulting law enforcement officers and tossing an explosive device into a Capitol tunnel on Jan. 6 was rearrested just days after receiving a pardon from President Donald Trump.

Ruthless tactics at work here. No reason to go offline right now other than creating drama, attracting attention, and baiting —or coordinating with? — Trump’s desire to be the hero who returns an addictive app to a generation that has yet to experience platform change. #tiktok
