Is there a professional obligation for city-based anaesthetists to contribute to rural service delivery?
City based surgeons contribute greatly to services in rural areas in Australia, should us as anaesthetists do the same?

An audit of BoM's asset maintenance program in the weather observing system by the ANAO is among the worst I've seen. It's scathing and the details are borderline absurd. www.thesaturdaypaper.com.au/news/environ...

And #ausag is paying the price.
Bureau of Meteorology is failing to maintain its weather observing system despite hundreds of millions in extra funding explicitly for that purpose, diverting those funds to cover cost blowouts elsewhere. Now it's $152 million in the hole as systems fail. www.thesaturdaypaper.com.au/news/environ...

Working the horses this morning.
This is Kylie Mole (Mole for short) she’s out of a mixed bred mare that we used as a kids horse by Bones (my now-gelding)

I have no idea what we’ll do with Mole, although I do have a pony cart going to waste in the shed…..

Obelix is a Percheron gelding who used to be a bronco branding horse. Like many grey horses he developed a growth - in his case a large tennis-ball sized tumour in his neck near his jaw & on veterinary advice he was retired.

This is utterly absorbing - and horrifying in so far as it emphasises the absolutely hopeless (indeed, bizarrely uninterested) police & govt response to missing Indigenous men.

Tim Elliott has done a great job writing & researching this. Read it.

Drugs, bikies, a serial killer: How did six men vanish from the outback without a trace?
Wes Lockyer is one of six Aboriginal men from WA’s remote north to have disappeared in recent years. His family want the police and pollies to do more to find them. And the public to care.
