If a UBI were to be realized rent exploitation would be more exposed than it is. It would force the payers of UBI to see rent pricing for what it is, price gouging, exploitative, wage slavery enslaving, resource gatekeeping, closed commons, privilege pronouncing, and theft

Results of a new UBI experiment:

“Stocks were up 1000%. Recipients watched more news.
The UBI paid for itself 100x over.
Startups and investments were up 100%
Portfolios nearly doubled
All the wealthy people’s dreams came true
The poor remained in poverty and were more subservient”

Are you an employer who hates paying minimum wage?
Do you want your business to make more money? 💰

Here is a thread 🧵 on the minimum wage and how a UBI would possibly make you more money
So if a UBI was covering basic necessities there would be no need for a minimum wage. Any wage would be disposable income. And the employer would have to raise that wage to incentivize workers. Or do profit sharing. Or take serf royalty payments

“The worst thing I can imagine is poor people getting food & shelter for free”, said Terrance hearing about UBI, who was rich & had food & shelter

Dane nodded, who was poor but spent a lot of time w Terrance

“They never had food or shelter before employment”, said Terrance who was also illiterate

With a UBI people can visit other realities

When I was growing up without worry (financial or housing) I would visit places & experience briefly the worlds other people lived in

It was strange, enlightening & sometimes emotional

That doesn’t happen anymore

A UBI would allow us to create & visit

Conservatives & boomers & some other groups see the world as a win lose scenario

“If I win, you lose”
“If you win, I lose”

To them someone has to lose

This is zero sum thinking

But they have heard of “win win” situations but don’t see life that way

Yes, that's one of the strengths of UBI. It would provide upward pressure on wages for jobs people dislike. This would also accelerate automation of those jobs. On the flip side, it would subsidize work people enjoy, enabling more people to do those forms of work

I believe half of all taxes should be returned to citizens so they have a direct choice in what to spend the money on

Instead of a bureaucrat somewhere who doesn’t know what you need you can participate and decide directly

Voluntarily, not the same as a UBI but can be used for basic necessities
UBI simplifies a lot. There can still be added systems that do more, and should. Though they shouldn't be government run. They should be voluntary and inclusive. The average person should be taking part in civic activities and getting rewarded for doing so.
I have discussed the formation of a non-governmental universal basic income and extended income program, which can easily be bootstrapped and expanded organically, many times in various threads. Not sure if I've ever actually written it out in a root thread, so here we go.

So here's a 🧵 #UBI

Recently did an interview with Forward Future about universal basic income that was published in two parts. Here's both together as one. I think it works well as a solid overview of UBI.

But I think it's important everyone knows that UBI works and demands it because reducing inequality can just be going back to 1960s tax rates. It doesn't mean UBI just like it doesn't mean universal healthcare. We need to fight and win both, but it helps to know they both actually work well.

The Year is 5030. The Four Millionth Test of UBI confirms that it works and does not make people not work, reduces poverty, improves mental health, and clears people's skin.

It continues not to be adopted by any major political party.

A new trial of the efficacy of UBI begins.
Despite repeated warnings from critics, another study finds that basic income does not reduce work effort.

Germany's Grundeinkommen study found recipients maintained full-time work, averaging 40 hours a week—matching the control group.

What's another key to defeating Trumpism in the elections to come? Rebrand progressive policies as the true populism that a majority of Americans are craving -- and then deliver on those policies.

The cost to get out of homelessness in some places is around $9000.

There’s no way that a unhoused person can get out of homelessness without help or housing changes

The brave people defending this society often come home and face homelessness bc of unrestrained price gouging housing

It would be nice to travel indefinitely. Unfortunately that requires money. Where does money come from? For the privileged it’s always been there. They’ve never had to question where it comes from. Never had to start w nothing or no one believing in you. They can’t fathom ppl need it to do things.

In Star Wars there’s this part where Luke Skywalker is talking to Rey in the mountain top and he says that the cave place is a horrible place that takes Jedi it corrupts you in exchange for feeling better

And Rey replies something like, “Where were you when I needed you?”
