The White House's proposed budget would cut NIH research by billions, including slashes to cancer research.

My new home state Texas is projected to lose $2.1B in economic activity from the budget cuts, including $353M in losses from cuts to cancer research.

How about you?

This is infuriating, scary, and horrible. NIH needs to support a wide array of science that applies to ALL people. We never know when a finding in one area can apply to another disease or situation.
The Trump admin already got slapped down by Judge Young, who said he’d “never seen a record where racial discrimination was so palpable."

Now, Trump’s begging SCOTUS to let him cut NIH grants that focus on gender, race, and LGBTQ+ research anyway.

Trump administration asks the Supreme Court to let it move forward with NIH grant cuts
A federal judge in June ordered the Trump administration to continue paying out roughly $783 million in National Institutes of Health grants.

Picking new members takes time: NIH staff spend 1-2 years screening candidates, getting approval, doing background/ ethics checks.

Some staff are now screening candidates’ social media to see if they've said anything negative about the Trump administration or have been involved with DEI efforts.

NEW: In an unprecedented move, the NIH will soon disinvite dozens of scientists about to take positions on advisory councils that make final decisions on grant funding.

NIH staff were told to select others aligned with the Trump administration and told to expect placements by political appointees.
Exclusive: NIH to dismiss dozens of grant reviewers to align with Trump priorities
The move would undo years of work, leaving advisory councils understaffed, and without the full expertise needed for reviews.

It's not just #NIH. It's not just #NSF. It's not just #NASA.

The whole scientific community has to make clear that all science across fed agencies is being destroyed in the US.

We can't just ask for our particular piece of the pie. The whole pie is being thrown out - saving your bit won't work.

BREAKING: A federal judge reversed National Institutes of Health's terminations of hundreds of critical research grants that were canceled because of their alleged connection to disfavored topics, including diversity, equity, inclusion, and gender identity.

This is a major win for public health.

THIS

1. When people lose their healthcare, the costs for people who still have healthcare go up
2. Many hospitals rely on patients with medicaid. Big cuts to medicaid close hospitals
3. Higher medical costs mean people have less money for other things, hurting/ruining UNRELATED small businesses
My daughter’s speech therapist went out of business because Medicaid reimbursement rates were too low. We do not have Medicaid. I’m going to keep posting this until people understand that when Medicaid gets cut *everyone* loses services.
